So i went out for my first session christmas eve.... I couldnt get back to the car fast enough.....

I felt i was intruding on everyone and everyone was staring at me expectant? like i had two heads or i was gonna do something mad!

To be fair i didnt get any agro but i kinda felt out of place.

Is it me or is it meant to be like this - edgy? hence the point of street photography?

Any tips at all would be appreciated.

Throwing yourself in at the deep end can be a good or a bad thing, depending on your self confidence and attitude. Try and find a specific theme for your shots and stick to it. It could be based on colour or reflections or shop signs or street performers or anything you like...

it's definitely meant to be edgy, that's why i love it, there's a thrill to it

use a camera with a distance readout focusing scale thingy so you can shoot from the hip

use a wide lens and get in close

get in, take the shot, get out fast, don't be seen

it's a lot of fun, you gotta have the guts to do it and laugh if off if you get caught or get some aggro.

it's also more fun with film.

I'm organising a free Street Photography Instruction and Photo session in Dublin tomorrow (28th Dec). It starts at midday for the instructional session which is being held in the Temple Bar Hotel on Fleet St in Dublin. After that attendees will fan out to put the theory into practice. All are welcome. More details here: http://www.digitalbeginners.ie/freesessions.htm
