Once again from January 1st ,toll prices at the west link are increasing ! I guess NTR are getting whatever they can in revenue before they hand over the bridge to the Irish Government in 2008

    What a rip off!!!!

Would it be useful to say how much it is increasing by, or better yet, what the new toll would be?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 999 ✭✭✭Noelie

I heard it's going to be 2 Euro

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,338 ✭✭✭aphex™

2 Euro? I usually give them that anyway. Little tip like. Saves fiddling with change.

Can't see anything which would indicate this. There are no links nor any news items with this. It's all going to change next August anyway...

Actually, NTR do not set/decide the increases... tis in the contract they have with the NRA...

Cars will be 2E from 1 January and there are several signs to this effect around the toll plaza. As I dont' drive anything else I can't clarify what other users will pay.

    does
    my
    head
    in.
    :(

Sooner it's gone the better. Hate having to queue to pay for the 'privilege' of using the M50.

... You are all aware it will still be tolled going forward right, once NTR pack up and go ?

    just no plaza ...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 85 ✭✭cormthechippy

i usually throw in €2 also...handier and it's only 10c in the difference. and as i should technically be paying €3.30 as i drive a van, i don't mind giving them the extra 10c!

paying €2 to sit in traffic and pure hardship is cheeky enough imo without forking out the full whack for the van. the fact they have the cheek to toll people to travel on a road as bad just baffles me...

For years, NTR never charged the full toll amount that their contract entitles them to; you guess wrong :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,052 ✭✭✭trellheim

You're not being tolled to travel on the road. You're being tolled to cross the bridge.

The M50 is not tolled [ yet ] apart from the bridge.

Once Barrier Free tolling rolls out the M50 will be tolled between N4 and N3 about 1/4 mile north of where the NTR toll is.

Well at least we won't feel as ripped off when the Government starts charging us €2 minimum.

Yes. Also, they're not 'packing up and going', they're getting payed off and shipped out.

You will now pay €1.80 if you are in a car from January 1 for the privilege of travelling on the M8 Rathcormac-Fermoy bypass too.

All the tolls go up on Jan 1, happens every year.

I'm dreading what there gonna charge us on the Limerick tunnel.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,082 ✭✭✭Chris_533976

As a bypass, ANYTHING would be better that trying to get from Galway to Cork rather than sitting for an hour in traffic in Limerick.

Limerick tunnel Draft Toll Scheme [ old ]

    same as Fermoy and M1

I don't mind paying the government the toll fee but not to NTR. They don't warrant get anything extra.

So other road toll companies deserve it more than NRT? How does one figure that out?

But the government are buying NTR out, so the money the government collect from the toll will just be compensating for paying off NTR

Yeh I saw 0.90c for Motorbikes and 2euro for cars

The thread title is about the westlink specifically. Also NTR have been more than adequately compensated for their investment many times over - can the same be said for other operators yet?

I think i seen on the M4 toll both something about a m4 price hike its already the most expensive toll in the country at 2.60

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,052 ✭✭✭trellheim

I think all toll franchises are allowed CPI increases annually

god it was dear enough already i dont see how this toll can justify this as the m1 toll is nearly half the price and it covers more road.

I don't think they use consumer prices - I imagine most use the capital goods index.

    Completely different arrangement.

With the M4, the consortium built, maintains and operates the route and collects the toll.

With the M1, the consortium built onlt the Dundalk Bypass, but maintain Dundalk-Gormanston aswell and operates the route and collects the toll.

Came through the M4 toll this morning expecting a 10c increase but was shocked to see that the system had been incorrectly set up and charged 4.10 instead of 2.70.
Reversed out and went to the cashier, explained that there was an error on the automatic lanes, paid 2.70 and went on my way.

I wonder how many paid the wrong price and how long will it take to be rectified!

@06:40 the road was fairly quiet, no traffic at all, it's expensive enough paying 2.70, To hell with paying 4.10 for a car!

What I will really love is when barrier free tolling comes in watching all those out of state registered cars and trucks use it for free while I pay for the privilage.

False number plates will be in fashion, when the congestion charging came into force in London it was not unusual for plates to dissapear from cars parked in railwaystation carparks and the owners receive a bill a few days later as the plates were put on a similar (same make & colour) car and driven through London.

I have no doubt that it will happen. Instead of stealing the plates off cars people will simply note down a few numbers and go to a motor factors and get some plates made up. In the UK you need to produce a V5 registration document to get a plate made here you need nothing more than the reg number and the cash.

That's what they used to do in the UK until the law was changed, now they either make them at home or steal them

My uncle in Scotland got a London charge at one stage due to license plate replication, luckily, he was easily able to prove it wasn't him.

Anyone know if the stretch from N11->M11->M50 Leopardstown exit will be tolled when barrier-free tolling is brought in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,084 ✭✭✭✭Stark

No, they're leaving the tolled section in the same place.
