Right so outside my gaff, I live in a housing estate, its been very hard to get parking on the street since late Christmas eve. Cars parked everywhere. My friends have said the same thing about where they live. (so its not like they upped from one estate to go to another)

So where did they come from???

    *tick... tick... tick... celtic BOOOMMMMMM!!!*

Can't see any other reason for it. People have more money, so they buy more cars. Simple.

I drove down to my parents yesterday morning and could not get a parking space near to the house in the estate where they live. The amount of cars around is unreal. I stayed in my parents last night. Im still here now and I still cant park the car outside the house. Some ignorant sod parked right outside the entrance to their house sometime on Xmas Eve and the car still hasnt been moved. My parents dont recognize the car so dont know who it belongs to.

My housing estate is flooded with cars over the last few years. I think it's due to students though..

It's because people go over to their friends/relitives houses around this time of year. It may seem as though there are more cars because, as you said, there is the same noticable increase on every road/estate, but in fact this would just be because people don't park in random empty driveways. If members of house A in Santry visit house B in Glasnevin they will have to park on the road as the people they are visiting in house B will surely have their cars parked in their driveway, seeing as they would have to be home to be successfully visited. This would leave an empty driveway in house A. But if people were to visit house C next door to house A they would park on the street rather than park in the space left in house A's driveway. If the people visiting house C were from house D next door to house B, then it would essentially mean there are the same number of cars parked on the Santry road and the Glasnevin road as always, just on the road instead of in the driveways. Simple.

It's obviously all the cars that have been sitting in traffic for the rest of the year. Nearly everyone stops working for at least the couple of days over the holidays, so their car is off the road and has to park somehwre.

My cul de sac's the same BTW. I recognise nearly all the cars, but it's unusal to see them all in the street at once....makes getting out of my corner driveway a tad tiresome especially in the dark...

I'm at my parents' estate. Cars everywhere. Most of the families moved in at the same time, had kids, kids grew up and moved out, now they're all home for christmas.

Out in the sticks here, don't seem to be any cars. Terry would appear to be correct.
