[REQ]Laptop Discounts

Hi I plan to buy myself a new laptop in the next few days. I'm worried I'm going to miss out on a few killer deals! Bargains seem few and far between this year...

Basically I'm looking for a laptop purely for web browsing, word processing and the basics. However I'm concerned that Celeron/Sempron will limit its abilities in the coming year or two, so I don't want to underspec the laptop either!

Any advice / price crashes / vouchers / codes/ etc...?

Is Dell as bad as some say? Oh, and I'm looking for the longest battery life possible.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I had a much longer response to this but I accidentally closed down firefox before hitting the post reply button so I'll shorten this a bit. I've had many dells over the past few years and not one has had a hardware fault yet. I've had some software related misshaps but you can't blame dell for a windows problem.

There was a voucher that boards users could use to get a 10% discount on dell computers that were over €850. Unfortunately it has expired but I think one of the admins is trying to get us another one.

If you are looking for long battery life go small. A 13" laptop will give you much better battery life than a 17" laptop. Also take note of the battery. Go for a 6 cell battery or even a 9 cell battery (although the 9 cell will probably jut out the back of the laptop).

Yes, there is in fact. AC has a cushion fetish. He likes nothing more than to surround himself with hundreds of cushions while in a state of undress. There is one particular cushion he has a particular affinity for, one that gets his special attention, that's his Almighty Cushion.

Anyway, back on topic. You will not beat Dell on price. I would echo AC's comments on Dell quality, I've never had a problem with any Dell laptops either.
