Bought a Lidl dish some months ago but in recent high winds the wall bracket hasnt proved up to the job and the arm is now partially torn out of the wall plate. Is it worth going back to Lidl under guarantee? If not can anyone suggest where I could buy a stronger bracket?

    Thanks

www.satellite.ie, or K T bracket & pole from your local electrical wholesale, or Maplin.

Those Lidl brackets are rubbish. Get a refund.

Yeah - the Lidl kit should have something like a 36 month warranty so just call them or drop in to get a refund or replacement.

Thanks for the feedback - Bracket snapped last night and the dish is now buckled beyond use! Rang Lidl this morning - they claim the guarantee does not cover weather damage!

If the item was not fit for the purpose sold then it doesn't matter what their warranty says as your statutory rights entitle you to a repair, replacement or refund. See www.consumerconnect.ie for more on your statutory rights in this sort of situation.

We have recommended for some while that the Aldi / Lidl sat gear is older model sat boxes, poor coax and poor dishes/brackets. They haven't been good value for satellite gear for a long while.

Regular dealers / Tech shops have been better value the last couple of years.

I have one of the original Lidl dishes up about 4 years now(came with an analogue system), still giving excellent service, and mounting bracket is still perfect, no rust. I live about 100 feet from the sea - had to adjust dish because of wind movement a couple of times.
To be fair though, I think the original brackets were much stronger than those supplied now.

It doesn't matter what they say about the warranty not covering weather damage - if the bracket is reasonably deemed not to be suitable for the purposes for which it was sold (i.e. mounting the dish) then you have a statutory entitlement to a replacement, repair or refund.

If the dish was installed per instructions and the supplied bracket still failed; it was not suitable for sale and all the disclaimers in the world don't change that fact - he's entitled to a refund or replacement.

Now, as goes the damage to the dish, possibly not... unfortunately.

Thanks for replies everyone. I know this is giving in to consumer laziness, but have decided to chalk the problem up to experience. It will be too much hassle proving to Lidl that the thing was properly installed!

I called round to Satworld in Kimmage yesterday (thanks for the Sticky) and a nice man sold me a VERY TOUGH dish, bracket and LNB for €55 - was in and out in 2 minutes and had it up and running in under 2 hours

If the bracket breaks Lidl should do the honourable thing - its crap if they dont!

I had trouble with movement of my lidl dish in high winds but it seems to have been resolved with switching the bracket:confused: that connects the dish to the wall bracket. 80cm is a big sail for the wind to catch! and if you can position it where it is sheltered all the better
I read on another message board that the bracket is better pointed up rather than down!
A mate of mine had difficulties with a "High street" electronics store satellite system (€150) which was very susceptible to gusts and winds - I think it was due to the gusts channeled between 2 houses, I moved the dish to be just in a corner between the garden wall and shed (bout a meter off the ground) when it is sheltered from the winds and it has worked fine since.
