I want to spend about 6 weeks backpacking across Europe in the summer (starting the weekend after I work ******)

I want to either Go alone or get some buddies to go.

My purpose is to get some scope on my life find out where I am/Who I am.

I want to travel by bus, Train, Ferry (basically anyway but flying )

I will be 19 when I start the trip and I will also be bringing my guitar just to either busk or just give a quick impromtu concert???

    My Questions.

Where are good places to go for the things described???
(e.g. getting perspective) I need a few places which I can spend just a few days in each place and move on to the next place.

If you have been there can you suggest good (cheap) places to stay???

How to travel to my next location?

What I will do when You guys give me the answers I want is I will makes an ordered list on here of all the places and where to stay and how long and how to get to the next location.
(e.g. Cork - swansea(ferry)until the bus to london)
except it will look better when done.

And Finally I will have between €1500 and €2000 for this trip and I want to fit in as much as possible so if someone could tell me the average cost of a hostel in the countries I will be going to.

I went interrailing this summer, spent a month travelling around europe by train. It was amazing, definitely consider it

Is it safe to go backpacking through Europe on your own?

I know three people who have gone and they have all returned without a scratch so It is 100 percent safe!!!( Ok maybe not 100%)

I am a big guy though (6"1' 175 lbs) I am told that I look like a bouncer. Most people would not pick me as a soft target.

But for the kind of person who is a soft target well it could be but not really as long as you are confident.

I'd recommend trying to get over into Eastern Europe. I did a week's mini-trip starting in Budapest, took the train to Bratislava and the ferry down the Danube to Vienna in September.

Bratislava & Budapest are both great places and quite cheap (a pint is about €2, shared dorm is a hostel about €11-12 for the night, you can get a roll and a bottle of water in a deli for about €1.50). Avoid Budapest's tourist area as it's a rip off. I'd also recommend Vienna, it's considerably more expensive but it can be done on a budget and there are cool things to do like the State Opera/Ballet for €2!

Two hostels I've stayed in I can recommend:

    Bratislava - http://www.possonium.sk

    Vienna - http://www.hostelruthensteiner.com
