Magazine Subscription Question

After much pondering what to get a certain somebody for Christmas I finally decided on a subscription to a magazine they really like. It's an American magazine and I subscribed to the magazine via the US site. All was fine and I paid for the magazines and the postage to Ireland.
However I didn't think of any Irish tax that might be incurred until someone mentioned it today. Quick look at the site does say that "you'll have to pay sales tax as appropriate in your country". Does anyone know if this amounts to much in Ireland ? Obviously I don't quite fancy the thought of having bought someone a present that they have to pay once a month at the front door for! Or is that not how it works?

If the value of each delivery is under 25 euro then there should be no tax to pay. This includes the cost of delivery so take that into account.

No worries, and same to you.

Don't take it as gospel though, but since it's just a magazine it probably won't get noticed anyway. Unless of course it's a Playboy, in which case they might want to confiscate it for further "inspection".

I used to subscribe to maximum pc, went to the magazine site and ordered directly never had any issues with tax etc, and worked out a hell of a lot cheaper then buying it in Easons :)
