new laptop want to change OS

    merry christmas everyone.

    Well I got a lovely dell inspiron 1520 laptop/ Its a nice laptop just for college and my journalism work.

    Unfortunatly it came booted with vista and i didnt ask them to roll back xp for me ( me thinking it would be easy)

    just hoping you guys can help me out.

    is it easy to accomplish? nows the time for me to do it while i have nothing on the pc.

    so anyone help me out as what to do please?

    stick in winXP disc. restart the machine, go into BIOS (think it's F2) set it to boot from the cd (under boot options) then exit the BIOS saving changes and reboot again, this time watch the CD do it's wonders.

    during the XP install you are asked where you want to install it, as a dell it will have at least 2 partitions one being about 3gig's in size (this is your vista restore parition may want to leave it alone) and a bigger partition where vista is installed, install it over this partition. the rest of the installation is the same as every XP install.

    People have been running into problems trying to stick xp on a vostro with vista on it. You may run into the same problems. This thread should help though.
