watched this film last night and can't believe that it took me so long to do so,IMO the best film surrounding boxing there is and it's a true story with very genuine touching moments in it also a magnificent performance Russell Crowe gives in it,best film i've seen this year.

It is a very good film, and I liked it a lot more than I thought I would have. It seemed like it was going to be one of those films that just aimed at winning a load of oscars, but I found it really enjoyable.

It's not as good Raging Bull, not even close. It is still however an excellent movie that I would recommend.

TBH I prefer Crowe in his Ron Howard movies (this and A Beautiful Mind) than I did in the Over-Rated bores like Gladiator and The Insider.

A good solid Hollywood film, very entertaining. I'd be hard pressed to find anything wrong with it, it hits all the right notes, but at the same time it's really nothing special. Howard is a very competent director and can do great work when he has the right material. This is his best film since Apollo 13 imo. It's a great cast and Crowe is far more suitable and consistent in this role than he was in A Beautiful Mind.

I do remember liking it on release. It is, of course, subject to most of the criticisms I have of Ron Howard films generally: unoriginal, Oscar bait and so on.. But technically it can't be faulted, good performances and overall enjoyable. No urge to watch it again I must say, but very good for what it is. Wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to someone, but if it is on worth a watch.

It's much better than A Beautiful Mind, yet that got showered with Oscars. How very odd

Have you seen Raging Bull and Body & Soul?

Thought it was a very good film and being a boxing fan I liked it a lot but it was overly sentimental and somewhat trite and clichéd in places I thought.

Also all Big Jim was short of doing was walking on water while they might as well have called Max Baer "Damien". Usually I dont mind Hollywood taking a bit of artistic license (The nautre of Jim Braddocks victory over Baer was well wide of the mark. But its a movie and Im fine with that) but I draw the line when peoples names and reputation are being sullied. Max Baer was a real person with a real family not a fictional character you can just make into a villian.

An excellent film. Raging Bull didn't stick rigidly to the acts either(very few films do)Artistic licence employed or not Cinderella man is still a very good film.
It's as good as Raging Bull which is full of cliched indulgence in places and is too sentimental to the main character at times.

Hang on are you actually serious or are you taking the piss out of someone (either me or the op?).

If you really believe that I suggest you go back and watch the film again. What parts do you think are cliched and what parts are sentimental to LaMotta? Assuming your not joking.
