Ok so I bought a blu-ray player to go with my computer so I could make it perfect for watching movies but heres the problem after setting it up today and getting some software(cyberlink power DVD) to play the blu-rays I found it wont actually play at max res on my monitor(2560x1600) Its telling me my monitor isn't HDCP compatible(which it is) It runs up until the menu and then stops telling me to lower my res! It plays fine at 800x600 but put it higher and the picture gets smaller and then just wont play..

    Any ideas?

Probably not the right place but sure I figured someone in here would know!

Moved from B&U, though not entirely sure which forum suits it best, so here it will rest for now. :)

    No idea personally...

Its not in my sig no, but this is it..

and yes my 8800's are HDCP compatible

Does resolution make difference to quality? It plays fine at 800 x 600 but its just id rather not have to change the res everytime I put a film on..

Yes. A HUGE difference. 800x600 is like dvd quality. If you're watching a bluray movie, it's gonna be at 1920x1080. It probably looks good because it's scaled down from such a high quality source.

For 800x600, you're looking at a total of just under 0.5 million pixels on the screen. For 1920x1080 it's just over 2 million. That's over 4 times the number of pixels.

I did up an example for you: You're looking at this (not bad).

but you should be looking at this (omg, the detail).

Ignore the difference in size on your screen. They'd both be scaled to be the same size.

Edit: For an apples to apples comparisson, compare this (bluray) to this (800x600 scaled). The difference here is striking.

oddly enough I used that program to check my computer.. Everything was green except the last one for display connection type..? Im think if I get a HDMI - DVI adapter and do it through the tv it might look alot better!

EDIT: Crap the one on adverts is gone!
