I installed XP with Boot Camp the other day. Downloaded a firewall and some anti spyware software immediately. Within, LITERALLY, 5 minutes the machine was slowing down and opening lots of internet explorers. And I found out today i'd been sending junk email all day.

It's actually so sickening. Partition deleted.

I'm experiencing alot of crap on my Windows partition too.

Popups and the lark. I ran a virus scanner and got like 7 trojans. I don't even use it that much!

I have to say I've never experienced any of these problems, hardly ever in many years of using PC and Macs. I regularly install new versions of Vista/XP too. What do you guys be doing?

Mind if I enquire as to the name of said software . . . . so I can avoid it !! Did you get this as a result of a google search and pick the first one that pops up ? A large proportion of the free antivirus software out there is in fact malware. Exceptions are AVG Free - ClamAV and a couple of others.

I got spybot SD and adaware.
    And zonealarm.
They found the problem but weren't able to delete it, and safe-mode wouldnt boot up. Well actually it did but i couldnt get the cursor to move at all and was stuck at the login screen. Tab etc didn't work either :(
I think I might try again with vista at some stage, looks pretty shiny from what i've seen

OS X is great no doubt but not perfect ether. But if XP was as bad some people claim, it would be usuable.

well i've had problems with both systems as well..

my macbook with leopard has been TERRIBLE recently, not booting.. eventually booting.. programs not launching etc, so i format my HDD and then reinstalled it and now everythings grand again.

stuff like this happens A LOT less on the mac but they still do happen.
