    hey,

What would you reckon it would cost to get new front shock absorbers fitted on a 01 147, is there much labour around fitting these? The car failed the NCT due to the supsension, something about a imbalance, talking to the mechanic on the phone he reckoned it may the shock absorbers. has anyone any experience of this?

on a side note does anyone know of a good alfa mechanic on the north side?

    cheers

Common wear and tear items on the 147's suspension is the front ARB & shocks. What is the mileage on the car? I'd look closely at the ARB firstly.

You don't have to go to a dealer to have the items replaced, but at least you will have come back and a guarantee that genuine parts were used.

The labour will be the big hitter.

TI autos in Smithfield. Gerry is known as the Alfa God.

How many miles on your shocks? Alfas have a tendency to eat wishbone bushings, possible this is your problem if one has failed. Get it checked out at TI - believe me it'll be money well spent.

thanks for the replies lads, the mileage is ~62k. the suspension sqeeks and creakes quite abit too.

    That's the wishbones.
Just did mine on my '97 145 with 81k on the clock!

Creaking and crunching over speed ramps is a classic sign of bushes failing. I've replaced all mine, one wishbone twice. (This car is at 100k+ miles).

Edit; Damn these Alfa boys are quick!

Also alfa156.net has an excellent forum for these type of questions for all modern Alfas; friendly bunch - a lot of Irish users & some really knowledgable techies too.

If the mods don't like me linking this I can be available for a suitable spanking...

    http://www.automaintenance.ie/auto-m...ce-contact.php

Lee and Ciaran in Automaintenance in Finglas. Its a Alfa Dealer who mainly do repairs and servicing now.

I've had a few things on my GT sorted by them down there.
Plus get it serviced there each year. Going back in the summer to them.

IMO you pay for what you get. These guys know exactly what they're at.

Going to a back street mechanic on an Alfa is not a good plan.

You might get away with it on a Toyota or something but to have your Alfa tickin over properly see a specialist.

Other than the guys I've mentioned I've heard good things about Gerry in TI.
