Can I search the library database from home? If so how? I tried it last night and I could get past the first page on the library website

Do you mean databases for journals or the library's own lending catalogue?

You need to enter certain details into your browser and configure it accordingly. I'm not 100% sure if this it the correct page but there's some info here. http://www.tcd.ie/Library/resources/offcampus.php

I've had no difficulties with searching journals from home.

When you've set up the proxy, try out Stella. It's the Library's new browsing catalogue (or 'discovery tool' as they call it) and it's The Bees Knees. Also, Automated Stacks Requests where they e-mail you when the book has arrived from Stacks. Nice. Remember, JSTOR is your friend...

semantic web: for people too stupid to know how to properly structure a search string.

God I hate that kinda stuff.
