Dead Bodies move on a Sony Bravia?

Has anyone seen a problem with a Bravia display with slow to still images?

I bought a Sony Bravia from Komplett and after a couple of months I had to admit the display does someting weird with slow moving or near still images.

It does all the difficult stuff brilliantly - fast moving action and deep blacks etc. but slow pan/zoom shots will have the side of a persons face move a few pixels and then resolve and other chunks of the picture will appeaar to morph too. I've noticed it doing this since day One but thought I was being too critical. However, everyone who comes and watches it complains about it. It appears to happen where an area of well defined single colour exists against a darker contrasting background.

The best way I can describe it is if you're watching CSI and a dead body's face appears to twitch..... It is definitely spoiling viewing. It happens on both analog and digital signals - maybe worse on analog. I suspect the graphics engine is outsmarting itself!

Is this a 'feature' or bug on this model of Bravia 32" KDL-32U2000 or have I just been unlucky? Either way I'm not happy with it and complained to Komplett who referred me to Sony who hint it may be a 'feature'. I'd appreciate any insights/experience to help me know what route to pursue on this.

I would not recommend a Bravia to anyone right now based on my ownership experience as I've seen plenty of significantly cheaper brands without this issue. BTW I'm totally pro-Sony with Surround Sound, Camcorder, etc all Sony and I've bought Sony TVs since the Trinitron came out.

It's a wild shot in the dark, but would it be do with pixel-shifting to stop screen burn?

Could be something like that but it'd make more sense to shift the entire image. Whatever it is it's unpleasant plus not unheard of on 42"

First , check if it has that " Smart motion " crud , and if it does turn it off , because that will be whats causing it , " smart motion" is an interpolation thing thats supposed to improve movement , but for improving movement theres no substitute for having a screen that can actually handle it !!

Second , what way are you connecting , analog or digital , if its analog scart or something , try a different cable ,

Failing those two , its probably an inherent problem with the screen , Sony were late to the table with flat panels ( they did not realise how quick flat panels would take off and stayed with CRT for a while ) and they are nowhere near as good as the likes of Panasonic and Pioneer , even Samsung and Toshiba beat them hands down.

Really , Sony flat panel sets only got good from the V series on ... and is that U in that serial number ?

Thanks for those suggestions. It is indeed a U. I'm getting the problem even on Sky via SCART which I changed a while back for a gold-plated version with no improvement. It doesn't have the smart thing listed as an option on the menu/set-up but I'm certain it's something like that built into the display software where it's predicting action that isn't coming.

It's difficult to demonstrate too - you sure know it when you see it but can't seem to find a DVD or something like that to recreate it. If I find a way to recreate reliably I'll land it in to the Sony service centre.
