Downloaded this last night so could play pro street online. It killed my system.Wouldn't load up games or dvd's. Luckly only got it last month when price dropped so went back into the shop. As i left controller and cables at home had to go home for them.(A Game store without cables or contrllers something fishy here). Dropped it back it and half hour later on way home with a new one when i relaised that the had fobbed me off with a 40gb version without telling me. Very irate the third time back into the shop. Did get a few games as compensation but still 40gb wont play ps2 games. I now have around 30ps2 games which are just expensive Frisbees since the dog chewed threw the controllers. Pain in the hole having to redo games to get back to where i was in them. Anyway of backing up game saves.

    Two morals of the story:
    (1)Beware when downloading this update.
    (2)Buy an xbox.

PS3 users with this problem = you
    RROD victims = 1/3 of 360 owners.

Sounds like a right pain though, I do sympathise. I shall be sticking my game saves onto USB now.

Avtually if Sony or even one of the game developers added a "bakc up you saves online" feature that'd be a great. I'm full of good ideas.

Can't you backup the entire hard disk to an external device?
I'm almost sure there's an option somewhere in the XMB to create a backup for the hard drive contents. This method is also used when you want to replace the Hard drive in the PS3 with a larger one.

2 posts on boards and both saying the same thing?

Did you really just register to point out that:
    1) you botched a firmware upgrade
    2) you don't pay attention in shops and let a shop screw you out of your 60gb PS3
    3) you feed your dog controllers

For some reason I smell troll

There is a problem with a few 60GB units ,I had to leave back mine and take a 40GB instead.

There is a poll on the official playstation site ,detailing which units are giving trouble and it's mostly the 60GB version.
But to be honest ,I was well looked after in the shop when I brought back the ps3 and I was glad I bought one:)

quick one, why is it on boards when someone questions something they are considered a troll? Is it so bad that companies come on here promoting / defending their products?

    I smell a troll!
It's fairly pathetic alright, somebody can't give an opinion on something without being branded a troll...

I'd noticed that you can back up savegames to a usb device easily enough, but didn't realise you could backup the entire HDD... that'll be damn handy when I upgrade my one:)

I have one link ,to the thread about the problem itself http://community.eu.playstation.com/showthread.php?t=171150

I can't find the poll thread ,on which machines are giving trouble. My history is cleared everytime I boot ,so I had to look for the above link ,which wasn't hard to find to be honest.

We PS3 owners are a sensitive bunch, misunderstood by many.

Surely there is seperate firmware versions for both PS3 models. If not, there should be. Is it really possible to backup gamesaves to a USB device?

I bought my 60GB in hmv ,when I went in with the 60GB they offered me a replacement 40GB and 100euro cash back.

The 60GB units are harder to sort out ,like for like. As far as I can tell ,if you want a 60GB you have to send off your ps3 and wait for it to be repaired.
Or take a brand new 40GB from the shop ,along with the cash back.

I don't really see the big deal about the 60GB ,it just seems to have more openings for dust to get into the machine.

I find the machine unstable anyway, especially during DivX and Xvid playback, stalling during some movies, while my €40 dvd player from Lidl and my 360 have no issues at all with the same disk, ah well.

At least Outrun 2006 coast 2 coast is almost supported, keep the faith Sony! lets get this one working!
