Odd sound-related problem with Vostro

Ok so I got a Dell Vostro about a month and a half ago, and I'm having a minor, if irritating problem.

When I plug headphones into the jack (and I've tried multiple headphones), I can hear a "noise", a kind of high pitched cyclical buzzing. I assume the noise is still there when there are no headphones attached but it's too quiet to notice, but with headphones on it's supremely irritating. This has been a problem since the very beginning, I just haven't really actively tried to fix it until now.

It doesn't seem like anything too technical, so does anyone have any idea how I could fix this simply?

Saving that, I'll have to get in contact with Dell again I suppose.

    Hi,
I read about the same problem before I even hooked up headphones to my Vostro 1500. I constantly have my speakers hooked up to it with no problem at all but when I hooked up my headphones (with a MSRP of $310) I got the buzzing that I very briefly read about before. So I did a bit of googling and on another forum I read that this effects ALL vostros:eek: and that there is still no fix for it. Maybe a driver update will fix it in the future, but for now I suggest just using speakers:(

It is most likely some component causing the noise, I have found this on a few PC and laptops, and the best way of getting rid of it was to open the Volume Control and mute one at a time until you no longer hear the noise. you might have the expand the number of controls ,as if I can remember it might only show 2 or 3 at first ,so first right click on the speaker symbol on the bottom right hand corner of the screen and select Volume controls, from there, go options-properties and select all components on the bottom. You can mute one at a time from there. I usually find it is the cd player

Don't think it's anything to do with that. I had a mess around with my own and no luck. From the other forum I was reading, having the power plugged in affects it for some people. I think it's more a hardware or drivers issue.

Yeah to be honest I figured that wasn't going to solve it but I gave it a go anyway to no avail. The buzzing is present even when the system sound is completely muted.

Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open for a fix from Dell
