Sony NW-HD3 Fried?

I got a Sony NW-HD3 a few years ago and a few months ago the AC power adapter stopped working and I had to plug it into my PC/Laptop to charge it (using USB), which was a pain in the hole. I looked online for a replacement but it was fairly expensive so I decided to get a power adjustable AC charger in Argos instead.

I plugged it in a tried to charge it and it seemed to be working but I suddenly realised that I never adjusted the adapter and it was powered at the full 12v instead of the 6v that my media player required. When I switched it on it hangs on a blue screen and makes a low buzzing sound.

Is there any way this can be can be repaired or is it totally dead?
