    www.bookdepository.co.uk

The best site for books IMO. Every book I've ordered from it has been cheaper than on amazon, and the best bit is delivery is completely free.

Great prices. I've used them several times, usually through Amazon marketplace. Not sure which is cheaper.

I've used them through the play trade section of play.com.

    Great value.

Great site indeed, order a few times from them and never any bother.

I've used them quite a bit too and have also found them very good. Would recommend them.

People probably know but their Amazon Marketplace prices don't include postage which is added when you go to check out but the Play Trade prices are inclusive of P&P. So worth checking both out before you order anything

    Hi

is the link www.bookdepository.co.uk? it doesn't work for me.

Yes you can't beat play.com for their upfront policy of including shipping in the price you see.

Also, the fact that they're based in Jersey, and therefore outside the European Union so their prices are exempt from VAT.

Thanks it must be NTL again.

Thanks for that, buy most of my books off play.com but looks like these are cheaper in a lot of cases.

Books are VAT free here anyway I believe

    100% recommended!

Usually are cheaper than Play and have a much larger selection.

Delivery is fast, although as good as Play to be fair.

As for CDWOW, don't start me on their slow delivery.

They get my recommendation too. I've bought about 15 books from them over the past year.

Good prices and everything delivered in about a week.

me to used them several times this year great service

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 885 ✭✭✭kendragon

Dang, why didnt I know of this place a couple of weeks ago... I paid €29 for a book in O'Mahony's that only costs around €15 through this crowd. Doh! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 624 ✭✭✭jimogr

Yeah, I use them all them time. Never had a problem. Delivery is usually within a few days.

I've only experienced asking customer service a question once and they had it answered with an hour.

Still find it weird that they have buy from amazon link on every book, I know they would get affiliate fees but don't understand why you'd advertise the competition (I know they claim they compliment reach other, rather than compete but business is business.)

Just tried my Laser card as Maestro is listed but it didn't accept it, is this another case of UK Maestro only?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,726 ✭✭✭qwertz

Ordered from them a couple of times. Usually good prices. One delivery arrived damaged so their customer support organized for another copy to be sent out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,289 ✭✭✭Talisman

I used to order from them regularly but the last order took almost a month to arrive! Got the "your title will dispatch shortly" email on November 16th. I emailed customer services on December 1st and they replied that they would be happy to send a replacement or give a refund if I didn't receive the book by the 15th. The book dropped through the letterbox on December 14th. I suspect that they didn't have the book in stock when I placed the order because it's a newly published title and Amazon weren't going to have it in stock for 2-3 weeks after I placed the order.

Frequently get books here and usually make great savings e.g. a lot of books around the €13/14 are usually only €8/9. Plus no added delivery costs (that is the really annoying thing about amazon). Stuff usually arrives within a week for me.

Do they take www.3v.ie? Searched one book and was 6.49. Amazon 5.99 but would be postage of 5 I think. Good tip OP

Yes as far as I know.

I tried my laser again there and no luck, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I sent them a mail just to clear things up, I don't expect a reply Christmas week though :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 642 ✭✭✭red_fox

I just recieved a reply, they don't take laser, although they did re-list the cards including Maestro but since I had trouble using my Laser I think they probably can't accept it. It's a pity, I'll have to wait for my Visa balance to clear now! :)

They said they take Irish Maestro? i will order a book to see what happens!

although they did re-list the cards including Maestro
What do you mean re list? My Maestro won't work. Are you talking of the Maestro debit card?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 642 ✭✭✭red_fox

I asked them if they take Laser, which is an Irish Maestro, I have the reply below, what I mean by re-list is that the list of cards is exactly as on the website.
I am afraid that we cannot yet process this particular card. Do you have an alternative that we could accept? We can accept the following,

    VISA
    MASTER CARD
    SWITCH
    SOLO
    MAESTRO

OK, but they don't take AIB Maestro debit? Is that what you mean by laser? Wonder if they take www.3v.ie virtual visa tho the postal saving would be lost as the charge for a top up has a 5 euro fee and any credit left is 2.50 to claim back

Irish maestros are completely different than UK maestros, the AIB are definitely misleading their customers by calling them maestro cards.

They won't take Permanent TSB laser/maestro

Yes - these guys are excellent. We buy books through Amazon UK and US, Alibris (great for second hand), AbeBooks (good for harder to find stuff) as well as our local bookseller. We use the local guy when he's much the same price and has it in stock but often the online price is just too good to miss.

We've bought from BookDepository via Amazon marketplace to start but now go direct and you really do save with the no-messing postage charge - really bugs me that Amazon don't offer the free-delivery deal that is available in UK even though I've noticed the books we have received in the last year from Amazon or more are posted in DUBLIN.

Had to ask Bookdepository to cancel a order recently (our mistake) - immediate response by a human being - no hassle, credit card refunded immediately - and all our orders from them have shipped quicker than Amazon. Was surprised that they had obscure enough books for a MSc course in Psychology ex stock as well as the general fiction and so on.

What card do you use, if you don't mind my asking? Prices are great but won't take Irish Maestro/Laser

Got 2 books in the last 2 days from the site and top notch service. Used my Visa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭ratsam

Got many books from these guys.. great service and speedy delivery.. I generally look in bookshops around town and then nip back home and order the books I liked with Book Depository... often saving 30-50% on store prices...! I use Visa for ordering.

I'd been meaning to pick up a couple of economics books lately (random walk and intelligent investor, since this thread is in the biz section!) - just ordered both of them for the price of intelligent investor in Easons!

So cheers for the heads-up folks!

Ordered a book from these guys on December 6th for a christmas present, still haven't received it. On the books page it says it dispatches within 24 hours, but it's on my account as "IN PROCESS". I wouldn't even mind, but I've emailed them 4 times now for clarification and got no response. All this talk of customer service replying within the hour makes me think I'm on a spam blacklist or something. Not happy at all

mfdc - would be interested to hear how you get on.

Will be very disappointed if these guys have lost the plot - so far all my experiences with them have been excellent.

I ordered a book from these guys before early December (cheapest i could find) after about 2 weeks it hadn't arrived and the order was showing IN PROCESS, so i emailed just to confirm it had actually been shipped, got a big apologetic reply saying it had been shipped a week previous and they would send another copy - i just put it down to a postal delay and told them hold off for a few days and sure enough the original arrived.

To be fair they can't be responsible for shipping delays they're at the mercy of the postal system, but based on my (one) experience I'm suprised by their lack of response.

    Hopefully you get it sorted.
