when youre using the ps3 to stream media from your pc, what port is the router using for it? coz mine keeps cutting off intermittently so im thinking theres something else using that port every now and again causing the issue

if i knew what port it was i could fix it

    it uses 1900 i think...

If your already able to play anything from your media server to your PS3 its not likely to be a port problem i think. You might be better off checking out your wifi router box.

If your getting this trouble only when playing video media it's probably a bandwidth issue....might be best to set up some QoS on your wifi router to ensure that when other people are browsing the web/using internet it's not going to effect your media streaming.

    hope this helps,

nah its not only when i play media, if i turn the ps3 on now and just leave it at the dash ill get intermittent "connection lost with media server" errors popping up

its a wired connection as well, and it works perfectly for everything else so i assumed it could be something running on the ps occasionally using the port for some outbound comms

outbound comms using the same port wouldn't effect it. Is your PC using wifi or ethernet?

Do you use a firewall on your PC? Have you tried using different media server software?

ethernet, not firewall and only used wmp

must give winamp a go now in a few minutes now that you mention trying another piece of software actually

ah winamp remote only works via the web, not through lan

any ideas for any other software?

nah i tried that before, way too finnicky

wmp would be perfect if i could sort the disconnecting out

i like these things to be simple
