Is it possible to hook up the PS3 to the net using a 56k modem? The only thing I need it for is updates which I can leave downloading overnight.

Really? Cool. Is that difficult to set up?

I'd imagine it would take quite a while to download 140mb via a 56k modem though:(

its kinda tricky and can just not work at times

basically if i remember correctly the process is something along these lines:

you highlight your network card lan thingy and your 56k connection in network connections in the control panel, right click and hit "bridge", then connect the ps3 via a network cable to the network card at the back of your pc

theres more to it but its been years since ive done it

i did it that way to reg the ps3,

but there's no resume on it if conncection fails have to restart and won't turn off when done internet will be still and 140 won't be fully done in one night.

just download the file from the playstation site o you pc pop it on a stick and do it that way less work.

also if you wipe the drive for any reason or get a bigger one you have the os file on the pc ready to install so won't
    go throught this again.

I tried that whole bridging thing but it kept coming up with an error for some reason. I'm on a laptop if that makes any difference.

The reason I need this is for the Pro Evo update which doesn't seem to be available for download from the net.
