Edinburgh Advice

Right I've just booked a three night stay in Edinburgh in January with a mate of mine (planning to for ages). We're heading over a Wednesday morning back Sat morning, staying in the Apex city hotel right beside the castle. We're just starting to plan it now - what do we do?!

    We were thinking

Wed: Check into hotel, get brekkie, then go do the castle tour then maybe a bus tour or walk around the city after
Thurs: Museums - war museum, history museum etc. Then we need to find somewhere that sells haggis - this is imperative!! Anyone?
Friday: Maybe a bus/coach tour outside the city into the county/surrounding highlands?

We're not into nightclubs but would appreciated suggestions for good pubs for a few drinks every evening. Also, has anyone any experience with the Apex city hotel?

    Advice appreciated!

OK, here's a link to Trip Advisor reviews of your hotel

haven't stayed there myself, but reviews are good, and location is pretty good.

Your plans sound pretty good. There's a whole lot to see on the Royal Mile, and believe me, you won't have trouble finding haggis.(just go up into the hills & look for creatures with left legs longer than the right:p)

Some pretty good pubs on the Royal Mile too, but I'm not awake enough yet to think of the names of the best ones. Trial & error - you'll find some good ones, and a lot of them will have special offers on one or two beers & spirits. You'll find pubs cheap enough compared to home anyway, I'd say.

If you go for the bus tour you won't have long enough to get to the Highlands & back really, but there will be a choice of tours. As an alternative, there's a train every 15 minutes to Glasgow, takes about 45mins, and the city centre is great for shopping - much better than Edinburgh imo, and I can recommend "The Goose On Union Street" as a great pub for cheap pints & a bite of lunch upstairs. Ask in any shop, or anyone on the street & they'll happily show you where it is.

    Have fun

Been living in Glasgow for the last four months and I would highly recommend it for shopping. If you do plan to go go via Megabus. Just search for them on Google. They work out really cheap if you book it now and I think they go back every hour throughout the night so you can even have a night out in Glasgow. As for haggis, every shop sells it and you can get it in take aways too!

I didn't and I'm actually moving back to Ireland today! I kept putting it off, thinking I could do it anytime and now it's too late :(
