I have my house insurance thru AIB, they do an extra "all risks policy" that you specify what the items are and what the valu eis. for individual items over a vertain value (€1170 I think?) you have to mention them specifically, but if its an entry level dslr with a couple of lenses that totals €1500 then you just say its a camera and few lenses worth €1500. I've got about €6k or €7k of camera kit on it, about €4k of bicycles and my house and contents for less than €500 a year. Might seem a bit steep but might be worth looking into. Its peace of mind with the all risks, lost stolen, damaged due a falling etc... and its covered. Your stiff is even covered if stoeln from a LOCKED vehicle.

I had my camera kit insured through my house insurance, have around 10K worth of kit

but i found a few things that were not great

    1. if you earn any money from the kit your domestic house insurance wont cover the kit

    2. it didnt quite cover everthing, like if the kit was left unattened, like say in the hold of a plane is wasnt covered etc.

so i bought pro camera insurance, which just seems to cover me for everything

including cash, public liability, kit covered in the hold of the plane etc

but it costs a bit, 450 euro a year

but for me as i earn money from my kit, i cant be covered on my house insurance and it just is a deductible item from my tax bill

but its worth getting it right, loose your camera or get it smashed or something and you would be in trouble

stcstc, did you get cover from an Irish company? If so would you mind saying who?

Have been meaning to insure my kit for some time now but with a pending gig to Africa to cover the Dakar Rally early in the New Year I think it might be prudent to act sooner rather than later.
