Virtual Console Games Over Component...

I've searched high and low on the Intertron for a definitive fix, but I can't find one: I've my Wii hooked up to a 32" LCD, which is 16:9, via component. Everything works fine, with the illustrious exception of Super Mario Bros. 3. When I run it, the TV just reverts to a "Mode Not Supported" error and I have to restart the console.

I've tried every combination of resolution and aspect ratio (as far as I know), but to no avail. I know that this is a problem with PAL VC Games alright, but how do I get around it? I really rather not have to change over to composite every time I want to play certain games :) Is it a refresh rate thing?

    Thanks in advance!

Nope you have to switch to composite (afaik). Pain in the hole...

Have you tried going into the Wii display settings and selecting 576i or 480i instead of 480p?
(still kind of annoying, but better than having to switch cables every time you want to play a game...)

And, of course, after finally posting about it, I find a site that explains it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Console#PAL_issues

My problem was that I couldn't get INTO the Operations Guide for the game because my TV had switched off at that stage. So I paused by hitting the home button on the WiiMote, then switched the TV on and off, and sure enough I was able to get into the Operations guide, his the A + Z + 2 combination, hear the sound and when I returned to the game, it worked.

Over-complicated, but at least it works! :D

Thanks for the replies, guys. I tried the resolution change alright tman, but it didn't resolve it. See my previous post for the solution! Might help you out too, Mr. E :)

Does anyone know if Super Mario Works or a various array of Megadrive games work now? I thought it was odd that Nintendo havent yet provided a fix for Supermario works, but at least I have Mario3 :)

As far as I'm aware, this method fixes all of these PAL games which have the same issue. The problem is to do with the PAL format + interlacing over component.

Well Super Metroid wouldn't work for me over composite, and it does now using the A+Z+2 trick.

Nope, Doesnt work. Neiter does sonic1. But sonic 2 and 3 work just fine.

Problem is bringing up of the wii menu. It works fine when it isn't brought up... Irs brought up automatically when you load a game that was already played. So I can play sonic if I delete the savegame for it.

Doesn't work so well for mario world tho. Unless I want to complete it alll in one sitting... :(
