suspicious activity in south dublin neighbourhood

not sure if this belongs here but bear with me.

Last night there a lot of commotion in our neighbourhood. First a car sped down our road at about ninety miles an hour (south dublin) and a few mins later a least ten police cars had surrounded the house in question as well as "emergency response unit" vechicles. Numerous residents have noticed that this house has been guarded by security day and night over the last while. It was reported that the guards or army officers emerged with a black box of some sort.

I live in close proximity to this house and this suspicious activity concerns me. Not only that but the entire household were kept awake last night with all this activity as the dogs etc were barking. When I rang the guards today to find out what had happened they said it was classified information (we have no idea who lives in the house, wondering if it is a journalist) but yet we do have a right to report suspicious activity and they security guards who guard the house day and night (sitting in their cars) can be reported (so we were led to believe). Is there anyway we can find out what is going on...................?

Buy a box of smokes and a few cups of tea later on tonight and get chatting to the security guards when it's quiet.

Why the hell would you report the guards for doing their jobs? They're obviously there for a reason and just becuase your dogs keep barking is no reason to ring and complain.

There does seem to be way too much of this type of thing in South Dublin.

Where is the house located? What street?

Friend of mine who was listening to a scanner the other nite said he heard that a pipe bomb had been thrown at a house in stillorgan. The car involved has driven through a checkpont and was chased to west dublin by about 10 garda cars.

Nothing in the news about it but sure this sort of thing happens nearly every nite and is not reported.

Not quite the dramatic 'throw and chase' as your mate heard...
Army bomb disposal experts are examining a crude incendiary device found in south Dublin this morning.

The device, which did not ignite, was discovered underneath a car in the Stillorgan area shortly before 4am.

The army was called and took the device away to be dismantled before handing to Gardai for investigation.

A spokesman said the device had been made from fireworks.

Chases are very rarely reported. People dont want to hear of cars being chased doing 100mph+ on suburban roads every night.

My daughter told me this morning that she had come accross a lot of Garda activity last night, South Dublin. Lots of marked and unmarked cars all converging on one spot, she said some of the detectives were armed.

Does anyone have any idea why this person was targeted for the attack?

    Targetted?

In most cases they deserve it. Prob owes money for drugs or grassed somebody up.

Informants do not 'deserve' to be pipe bombed.

Legal to own, however, its it illegal to listen to certain conversations - listening to mobile phones (now all digital anyway), air traffic control and garda are certainly illegal.

Its not illegal to listen to air traffic control, garda, fire brigade, taxi cabs, clampers or anybody who transmits on an unencrypted frequency.

If you used a scanner to commit a crime you could be charged with having an impliment for the purpose of committing an offence or the likes. The same as being caught with a bolt cutters in an industrial estate next to a chain link fence at 3am!!

My god victor i thought you would know better :)

RUBBISH ! Anyone can listen into air traffic control - its even available online. Just go up to the viewpoint at the side of the airport at dublin airport and everyone has scanners tuned to the tower. I bought mine in power city!
