Diary of a laptopsdirect.ie purchase

    All,

I have seen quite a few complaints from people ordering from Laptopsdirect and being a previously happy purchaser I decided to order my latest one from them. This is my story and it isn't coming with any bias or malice, but from a straight forward purchaser view....

I ordered a Samsung X65, 4GB SoDIMM and a USB TV tuner on Sunday 16 Dec in the evening. The website was showing >20 laptops in stock and I therefore placed the order for a pre-xmas delivery.

The order was processed and on the ordertracking the following day I was presented with:

Delivery status: Your order has not yet been despatched
Order status: Your payment has been taken and has been approved for despatch

I called Laptopsdirect on Tuesday afternoon to be told that the X65 was out of stock and that they were expecting a delivery that day. So I said I would check up the following day to see what had happened. I called before lunch today and was told that they were unable to give me a status on the X65 but that they would ring me when someone returns to the office. The person I spoke to was called Jodie.

I dislike having my money taken off me and having nothing but promises to show for it. So I will keep this thread updated so that everyone can see the level of their service, be it good or bad.

I rang laptopsdirect up to get an update a few mins ago and was advised that the laptop was now in stock and was being despatched this afternoon. I have my fingers crossed and hopefully I will have a good story for everyone tomorrow to balance up some of the negative ones on here.

I bought an acer laptop from them a couple of weeks ago. Prior to purchase, and immediately after, I emailed them to ask technical questions and to ask them questions about my order.

I never had a single reply, I emailed 4-5 of the email addresses on their site several times. Not one single reply ever.

Also, after completing my credit card transaction the night I purchased the laptop, the printable order page had no order number on it. I had to wait for an order confirmation email to furnish me with that. That confirmation email took nearly 24 hours. When you've just spent the best part of €1400 you want a confirmation email straight away. The 24 hour wait was agony. I had no idea if they had my order, if there was a problem with it etc and as I had no order number, I could not check it online. Also bear in mind that they would not respond to my emails so I was left totally in the dark.

These people have never responded to any of my attempts to communicate with them. Although they did start sending me their junk marketing emails after I specilically opted NOT to be sent them during the order process.

I got the laptop in about a week, but the experience was truly hoprrible.

    NEVER AGAIN !

I've heard and experienced both bad and good things about laptopsdirect, but will never order anything off them ever again. I've read to many horror stories and am more careful of my money then to trust them with it tbh.

    Further to the diary....

I was advised that the laptop was on its way and I should expect delivery today. So being diligent I called the courier company who then advised that the laptop was in the van but they are very busy today and couldn't advise when delivery may be made :(

I suppose I can't complain at this point as it is still xmas and deliveries must be manic. So I will give them the benefit of the doubt as I wait for the delivery to arrive :o

    More to follow...

get the driver's mobile and arrange to meet him if you dont want to wait.

Well I tried to meet the driver, but due to his poor English and difficulty with locating anywhere that might ordinarily receive mail. I am meant to have another driver dropping it off to me in the morning!! Yeah right... guess it is a new year delivery then
