    hi there,
I have a question for all of you.
How would you understand if you had a problem with drinking?
I usually have 3/4 glasses of wine at lunch time, the same or more at dinner time..
I would drink much much but my parents notice that I drink also when I am upset so they drink I should stop asap.
    What do you guys think?

    Alcohol

    Units

A woman is allowed 14 units of alcohol per week (not all in one day) 2 units a day.
A man is allowed 21 units of alcohol per week (not all in one day) 3 units a day.

    What is 1 unit?
    1 unit =
1/2 pint of ordinary strength beer/lager/cider
1 small glass of wine (125mls)
1 small glass of sherry (50mls)
    1 single measure of spirits(25mls)
It takes one hour for 1 unit of alcohol to be cleared from the body.

You're having at least 6 units a day???? Every day???? And then drinking to cope with emotions??? You know you need to cop yourself on.

A bottle wine/day seem a tad excessive to me. There are several Alcoholism Tests online
Have a look and see where they place you.

I dunno. That units thing seems like bull**** to me.
A pint of relatively strong ~5.5% beer is 3 units.

Is anyone who drinks more than 7 pints in a week an alcoholic? Doubtful.

I think the real questions you need to be asking yourself are

    A) Could I stop drinking, if I wanted to?
    and
    B) Is drinking interfering with my work or relationships with people?

And i wouldn't trust those online tests
absolute shít of the highest order
    according to that
    im a

Your score is 7 points. You may evaluate your score on the following scale:

0-3 points: Normal range, low risk. If you are still concerned that you may have a problem with alcohol, contact your doctor.

4-9 points: High risk for problem drinking. Addiction to alcohol is likely. Contact your doctor for help.

More than 10 points: Alcoholism. Contact your doctor for help.

    absolute bollox!!

    I have about 2 beers a week !!

the questions are all .. have you EVER ??

one could easily score 10 or more .. and according to that you're an alcoholic!!!

    BOLLOCKS !!!

maybe if the q's were have you regularly ..

How old are you? Also can i ask if you drive?

Have you ever tried drinking water or a soft drink instead? Why wine? To me, what you're drinking is excessive.

Eh 8 glasses of wine a day is a lot yes. That 56 glasses of wine a week. Which is quite a lot. What happens if you try taking 3 glasses of wine with your meals for 2 months, then 2 glasses of wine. And take up a sport or something The same drugs that are released into your brain (the "feel good" drugs) are released when excercising too. Try going to the gym or for a run in the evening and cut down a little bit with the wine and see how you get on. If you are still having problems and cant go with 3 glasses of wine with a meal and then 2 glasses of wine with a meal, then yes...you should probably seek professional advice. But that is not as serious as you think. Hell I know a fair few people that could have been classified as alcoholics during college, but now dont drink much at all. You are concious of what you are doing and how much you are drinking - alcoholics usually deny being alcoholics so you have a good advantage in that you are at least checking up on what you are doing

drinking a lot does not make you an alcoholic

being addicted, having a dependancy to it does

    can you give it up?

try it, for a week, that should answer your questions

OP - if you're drinking that amount every day then you have a problem. Particularly if you're drinking at lunchtime. Doesn't this get in the way of your job? And drinking to cope with your problems is a bad sign.

How much you drink is irrelevant.

I think the most simple question is this.

Does your drinking negatively affect your life?

If it does, you have a problem. Simple as that.

Generally I drink both at lunch and dinner time and when I go out I have some drinks as well.
I have noticed that I tend to drink when I feel sad, upset or andry and being tipsy or drunk helps me relaxing or sleeping better.
I thought maybe this is my solution when things go wrong...
Since some of my problems don't seem to be gone away although I tried to sort them out, I feel I can do nothing about them anymore and in order not to think about them I drink.
I am living in Spain so we have the "siesta" time to eat and have a nap to.

I also tried to join clubs,go out for a walk when I feel bad or meet my friends but I just can't put my mind at rest..

    what can I do?

Sounds like you have a problem to me alright. Four glasses of wine at lunchtime is the big one for me. Four glasses in the evening would be quite a lot (I think) unless there's some kind of occasion but if it's following four more from lunchtime, then it's huge.

Do you have a job? If so, I can't imagine they'd be very happy if they knew you were coming in after lunch having had that much to drink.

Why do you feel the need to drink at lunchtime at all? Why not have tea or coffee or fruitjuice or coke or any number of non-alcoholic drinks?

To be honest though, an internet forum isn't the place to ask that question. Talk to someone who you can count on to have an educated opinion on the subject. Talk to your gp or someone who deals with alcohol abuse and see what they say.
