Just wondering if anyone has bought a digital camera in Singapore?
I'll be there in a few weeks n trying to decide to buy there or just get one here,
I've heard it is a lot cheaper then most places but can be a bit stressful.
Any info anyone has would be great.
    Thanks

I would say buy it there, there is a place called Sim Lim Square which has 6 floors of electronics reasonably priced, give yourself 2 hours and go around lots of different shops and get quotes, then try to haggle one of the other. I bought a decent lap top (with no Operating System) for 660 Sing dollars (Just over 300 euro), so I reckon you could get a good deal on a digital camera. The risk your running of course is aftersale service, but thats a risk I was willing to take and still no problems a year on. If you go to Santosa island, be sure to try the luge, night safari in the zoo is decent and try the hawkers for food (very cheap and tasty). Little India is a good budget place to stay with hostels and guesthouses...

Cool, Thanks very much, and just say if i was looking for the likes of
a nintendo ds or that kind of thing, would that be the way to go too?
Heard the night safari is the business alright..

I bought a digital camera in Singapore last year and it was half the price of the same camera here! You've absolutely no reason not to go for it. You'll get great value over there! I'm not sure about other electronics, if there are differences between asian and european models. Perhaps someone else here will be able to answer that for you.

    Thanks for that.
Is there any shops you could recommend or should i just hit Sim Lim sq?

    Cheers

As mentioned, Sim Lim is the best spot. Take your time, check them all out and haggle.

As an aside, book your accommodation in advance, Singapore isn't that big and if you arrive on spec you may up paying a fortune. Orchard Road is the ideal base.

If you have the time visit Sentosa Island, nice spot with interesting history.

Just to add - We went looking for a camera in Bangkok and Singapore and it was cheaper in Dublin! I'd be aware of Irish prices, then compare when you're there, if its cheaper here, you can always get it when you come back.
