In keeping with a recent after-hours thread,
what are your most contraversial but honestly truthful opinions on trinity?

Do you believe that the arts block should be nuked?

does the Junior Dean deserve to fall down?

is global warming a fad a farce and a deception?

Controversial opinions on trinity or controversial opinions of trinity students and staff?

Controversial opinions on Trinity - The administrative staff, who almost all seem to be women in the their 30s,40s and 50s based in front square should all be sacked and replaced with competent and friendly people who operate out of an office block somewhere adjacent to the university. College space is too scare for a bunch of nitwit paper pushers to talk about babies and other such stereotypical stuff in.

They really shouldn't have ever let the women in.

The college shoul be ashamed of itself for treating students as second class citizens and trying to screw every last penny out of them while rolling out the red carpet for tourists.

Also from the few members of the rugby team i have met (not the current crop, I don't know any of them, the crowd who played during my four years there) most of the rumours and 'jokes' hurled at them are almost definately true.

Spin off the Hamilton end. Westland Row IT has a nice ring to it. Add engineering and CS students to Catholics in that one Statute about crossbows.

Erm, Thats a bloody great idea. The Hamilton end could reach great heights if it didn't have the dead wood of the arts block dragging it down.

Being a DIT student, I'm sorry to say that some of your students are a little bit too cocky about themselves (think of that poster about the Paintball game) ;) There's no need to be, 'cause come the period after graduation, you can't be absolutely certain that you will not be wiping a DIT graduate's arse. :P

I can! now fetch me a drink DIT boy.

Trinity is the most over rated thing I've ever come across. I mean seriously. It's old! So what?

53rd in the world according to The Times educational supplement.

Its age and aesthetic architecture does little more than uplift mood and delight tourists granted. But behind all the show there is some genuine quality too.

There is no tangible difference between UCD and Trinity.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 288 ✭✭EGaffney

There is an intangible difference, though. Specifically, I don't know if I could have studied for three years in a campus that looks like UCD does. The only thing tangible about a university education is the vellum at the end, if you're being precise.

I'm not bitter about the Hamilton; I just spent three years walking all the way across College to get to lectures there, when everything else I did was at the Front Square end of College. Now I study in the Arts Block and I live in Goldsmith Hall. Sigh.

Let me guess, a drama student?

Ya, literacy tests to use this forum would have been my second choice tbh.

I don't think that the N/S system should apply to 3rd and 4th year students.

I am sick of having to explain in embarrassing detail that I have a job and life that is not 100% attached to college. My degree, while very important to me, is not my #1 priority. Earning living money tends to come before most things. I don't see why I should be expected to apologise for this necessity.

If I miss a class, I catch up on the reading myself. I work as hard as I can given my circumstances. Therefore I'd rather not be told I'm 'non-satisfactory' as if I'm lying in bed 'til 3pm.

    That is all.

    I'm guessing he's talking about non-satisfactory attendence.

    NS = Non-satisfactory.

I'd have more issue with the hopelessness of the timetabling than that, to be honest... the college is entitled to expect that you'll turn up to classes and make your studies a priority, but they don't get the timetables sorted out early enough for people to be able to sort out the work/college balance.
There is no tangible difference between UCD and Trinity.

I think perhaps an 'in quality' at the end there might be in order... of course there are differences between the two colleges. Not that either is better or worse but the two places do handle things differently.

I am also in favour of literacy tests. Not just for this forum but also for student journalists.

Not according to most studies and surveys...

Saying it doesn't make it true sangre...

I've attended both colleges. Have you?

I agree with you on this. Having just been NS-ed, my anger's a bit fresh (heh, can you tell?).

Things like timetables, exam timetables and exam results should be dealt with in a more hands-on way by college. I remember not knowing what the hell to do about any of these things in first year because no indication was given about where to go for these things by my department (especially as regards results). I don't think it's rational to randomly nanny students in one way, and not in another.

I know three or four people whose timetables weren't complete until Week 2 of MT. My timetable was incorrect throughout MT, it's just lucky I knew better and asked around for the right info...

Have you done every course in both colleges, researched in both colleges, worked in both colleges, published from both colleges, etc.? All colleges at an undergrad level are roughly the same, that's not where the rankings really come in.

It is suffering badly from being a state (free) university and until fees are introduced competition with more prestigious US universities is impossible.

    hello!
I'm am Austrian student studying translation in Graz. Since one of my foreign languages is English and our current topic is college/university education, I have to do a project on trinity college together with 3 mates.
It would be really nice if somebody could answer some questions for our projects success' sake!
    1. What does make trinity college better than other schools? Why is it special? Characteristics? Traditions?
    2. Is it hard to get in? How high are tuition fees?
    3. How is student life in Dublin? Are there many fraternities/sororities? Many student parties?
    4. Where do students usually live? In halls of residence, flats or rather at home with their parents?
    5. Is trinity college an 'elite' school?

It would be really nice if somebody could answer some of these questions! It's always good to have insider information!

    Thanks smile.gif!

There's no need to post the same thing in 3 threads! Stick to one, we read most of what's going on here anyway so posting the same thing just gets repetitive. Oh yeah, and I've answered some of your questions in one of the other threads.

DirtyLemons he explained that he'd answered in another thread and not to post the same thing all over the place. Stop looking for arguments left right and centre.
