I have to be in the airport at approx. 12 noon on christmas eve. If possible I would like to avoid the M50 toll bridge as I'm assuming it's going to be mental at this time. Anyone any tips? I'll be coming from Tullamore and think I can go from Lucan through Blanchardstown on out to airport. Any help appreciated.

I'd post up the route but using Google maps you can do it yourself.

Hint: Lucan aim for Clonsilla train station, Blanch.... back to M50.

Personally, you are better off sticking to the M 50 as the cross country route will take you past the Blanchardstown centre, which will also be mayhem, but here goes my suggested route.

To avoid the M 50, enter Lucan at the slip road just after the M 4 ends. Turn left at the village and then take the first exit at a roundabout (Ulster Bank), cross the Liffey and turn right at the traffic lights at the end of the bridge. Follow this road for about a mile until you come to a sign for a left turn. It is well signposted and it is a very sharp turn so drive extra slow at it.

This road will take you to Clonsilla, follow it until you come to a roundabout, where you will take the first exit. Follow this road and make for the N 3; turn onto the N 3 and you will hit the M 50 once again.

I was going to say "just leave earlier" but i think Ham'nd'egger did a much better job!

That's the way I go when I lived in Lucan. Live in Leixlip now but its the same route.

Depending on the time of day one can be quicker. You can also go into town and go up the N1.

You can bypass Blanch as well but dont know that route. It involves going around St. Margaret's I think

TBH Id say youd be mad trying to get to the Airport through Lucan and Blanch.

The M50 even at worst would be quicker....but it wont be that bad. Most offices are closed...the schools are closed...so should be pretty dandy. whereas if you head through Lucan and Blanch youll get caught up in the Towncentres traffic.

Cheers for all the replies. Think I'll try M50 so.

If you dont have to via lucan it can be very handy. It is for me anyways

I used to do all the other routes cross country from ratoath to finglas but finally settled down to just using the M50.

    Route A

    Route B

Route B will probably be your best bet.

Seriously? Route B is way longer than other routes metnioned. Even with the delay at Blanch I'd much rather go my way!
