An issue that had got a lot of publicity in recent days is the huge extent of cross-border fuel smuggling.

How does this activity affect the carbon footprint calculated for the republic? I presume all this fuel going across the border is computed as being consumed in the republic (even though it is not) and has the effect of inflating the republic's carbon footprint!?

Fair point, with the opposite effect in NI so Ian could make money on this by selling us carbon credits based on smuggled fuel:)

    Choose your favourite scam:

    1) a bit of fuel smuggling
    2) world wide carbon tax fraud

I would have to favour the carbon tax fraud. And just give it 5 years to things start to get going.
