That's pretty cool. The one thing that made me interested was how quickly they stick the frets in. Considering the price of that instrument, I would have thought they would have been a bit more careful.

Cool, thanks for posting it. I thought it was weird seeing all the blackies lined up with the exact same wear.......freaky.

You have to assume they know what they're doing. If they do the frets like that and it works, why change the process? You can see a guy levelling them later in the video.

I know they have to take it apart, but I'd be scared ****less of breaking something, especially when using a power screwdriver.

I wonder is "Blackie" much differant then a regular fender, I mean, the insides etc. Did Clapton go a-tinkering?

he built it from the best parts of a bunch of strats. so he tinkered a lot, but i think the circuit layout is the same as a normal strat if that's what you mean?

    Hi all,

Just came back from the States.

I bought a "Blackie" Strat over there.

However, it was only around $1,700. Aren't the proper ones like $20,000?

I think you might have bought a black strat with Clapton's electronics and a V shaped neck, known as Blackie by some guitar dealers, but really more appropriately known as the Eric Clapton signature model. This one is a replica of his battered black strat, the real Blackie, made with all the missing paint, scrapes, knocks and aging to closely mimic his original black strat.

I can understand the attraction from a collector. But not a player. I'd have though a player would probably be more interested in the signature models.

Although when it comes to battered strats... there's Rory Gallagher and there's the one and only Stevie Ray Vaughan :)
