Applying for a job that hasn't been advertised

Hey. Just wondering how to go about this. If there's a particular company you find interesting but they haven't advertised any jobs.... How do you go about saying you'd be interested in any position in the company without it sounding a bit flakey? Basically i want to get my foot in the door of somewhere i believe in, rather than a higher position somewhere i don't. Does that make sense?! Thanks!

If you know which particular position you would like to go for in the company, a concise cover letter explaining your knowledge of and suitability for the role would be appropriate. After this concise letter, also attach your CV for them to breeze through.

    Nothing wrong with speculative applications.

Yep, people do it all the time. Type a covering letter with this sort of stuff in it: "I am qualified in______ and have worked as/in______ etc", "I am enquiring as to whether there are any suitable positions in your company".

Phone them up too and get a decent contact person - not the general HR manager, better off getting the head of the specific section you're interested in working in. A lot of unsolicited applications come in, so make yours stand out.
