If I buy a new reciever from ALDI or the like could I split
the signal from my existing Sky dish and get both boxes to work.
one with my sky sub and one with the freeeview stations. I dont like the
idea of two dishes on the house.

If the secondary receiver has a loop-though of the satellite feed, you can connect the LNB to the input of the secondary receiver and connect the output to the Sky digibox. This setup won't allow you to use the boxes independently, however -- the non-Sky box will take over control of the LNB in deciding what band and polarity to use. This could be fine for occasional use. You'll experience the same thing by splitting the signal (not recommended).

To overcome this, you don't necessarily need a second dish. You can replace your current LNB with one with two or more outputs and feed each tuner separately.

you just need to get a double LNB and run a new cable to your new reciever and away you go

the LNB is just the bit that the cable connects in to at the end of the dish and you can pick up a double or quad version fairly cheap on here or ebay

this way you can us both at the same time and no lose of signal

Thanks eternet, That sounds like a bit of work. I might
just put up the second dish.

you dont need a second dish just a different LNB
    like this on ebay 310006482473

Yup, just buy a Quad LNB to put on your existing Sky dish, would be handier and tidier, and usually there is no need to realign the dish.

I have a SkyHD box but if I were to get a a cheap Sky box for FTV channels (on the card that actually came with the HD box :)), would this work or would the signal strength be too degraded to work properly?
