Looking at the pixmania site they call them Bridge Camera's.
FUJI FinePix S5700 caught my attention 1st. From the review i found here it looks like a decent enough camera.

Has anyone here got experience with this model or another that you can recommend me.

My budget is about 250max, this one come in at 165ish so well within my budget (some cash to spare for a sdcard?).

I've had the 5600 for over a year now and I can't fault it to be honest.
You need to spend a bit of time with it to get it set right and to get used to the modes but once you do it's very easy to use and it's got a good optical lens.
For the money they're probably the best value bridge around.
The only issue I have with the 5600 is the monitor but they seem to have addressed this on the 5700 - feck think I want one now!
Oh - and if you buy from Pixmania don't get their branded camera bag it's sh1te!

Don't do it!My brother has that camera and Ive used it once or twice and i hate the thing (apologies to those of you who have that camera). In saying that though if you like the feel of it and you're comfortable using it then go for it

I have a Sony DSC-H2 and I love it.Two of my friends have Sony bridge cameras and they both enjoy them.

    Thanks for the quick replies!

Timans: where are you getting it? This will be my santy present to :D

I'm going into peats (casue its near to college) tomorrow to have a look and feel of some camera's, maybe have a look in some other shops as well.

Tnkrbell: couldn't see a Sony DSC-H2 on some of the site's i checked, is it discontinued? Which model replaces it if so?

Right now im leaning towards the Fuji S5700, it's still not to expensive (i may have to put some cash down my self for it thou), it's the successor to the 5600 which should mean improvements.

    Hey Jozi,

I've had a 5700 for a few months now (got it from pixmania). I think it really depends on what you want it for.

Overall I think it's a great camera, the optical zoom is great, the macro is amazing. I still love shocking people with pictures of things that look "smooth".

However, I wish I'd spent a bit more for a few other bits. Firstly the shutter speed and size is limiting if you want to get into certain types of shots. I have tried to use the camera in "darker" situations quite a few times and I really can't get the kinda shots I would like because of these limitations.

So, basically it depends :D If you are looking more for daytime\bright area shots then it will probably more than do, if you want to have the flexibility to do more advanced shots like long exposures etc. then you can definitely do better :)

I think i've my mind made up, i'm going to go for a s5800. Found it online for 234 euro delivered, good/bad price?

Gambler: i'll be using most likely for daytime shot, can't see myself lugging it around on nights out! For the time being will be mainly college stuff, i would like to get into photography a little more with this cam

I think it was the DSC H7 that replaced the H2. There is also the H9.Thats the one my friend got and he only got it about 2 months ago and loves it!

    Just got it delivered!

I'll have to read up a little on what the manual setting do and how they work.

Very tempted to go out and do some shooting but i should be working on my thesis....

Have been playing around with the camera over Christmas, some snap at newgrange and cliffs of moher.

Quite happy with it really. Don't understand all the manual settings that it has thou, messed with them a little but mainly been shooting in auto mode and with some of the different scene settings.

Where should i start looking to find out about all the manual settings, the ins and outs of them, when to use what setting etc...
