Check the manual? The specifications from wherever you bought it? In theory, it shouldn't come with the software if you don't have a lightscribe drive.

its not exactly software, its called getting started with lightscribe, and it gives me a link to a demo of lightscribe and the lightscribe website. it doesn't mention it in the manual

To me it still suggests that your drive is a Lightscribe one but you can never assume that that is the case. What is your Laptop?

If the LightScribe software is installed you should have a tray icon for it. If you double-click it, it should pop up some options. On one of the tabs there it should display a list of drives, it'll say No Drive Found if LightScribe isn't supported.

It does happen, in work we have some LiteOn Serial ATA DVD writers which come with the LightScribe version of Nero 7 Essentials even though the drives don't support it.

Any Lightscribe drives I've come accross, laptop & desktop, have the lightscribe logo on the outside of the drive itself.
