    Hi All
I am looking into purchasing a new DVD recorder before Christmas. I am looking at two options really. The PHILIPS DVDR3595H DVD Player/Recorder and the PHILIPS DVDR3575H DVD Player/Recorder. Just wondering has anybody and advice on any of these. Should I get one or the other or go back to the drawing board and look for other models.
    Any help appreciated
    Thanks

This might be a bit late... I don't know if these would be good or not but you can get the 3595 for €280 in PowerCity (less if you buy online).

Take my advice, keep as far away from this heap of rubbish as possible. My partner bought me one for Christmas. Great I thought. Not so great when i started to use it. First few weeks went smoothly, Then the recorder started to freeze. I had to unplug it to get it going again. Then programmes I recorded from the TV onto the hard disc would not play. The screen would turn black and the recorder would switch off. Contacted philips who said, oh yes, this happens with this recorder! Well it shouldnt happen Im sorry to say. They talked me through setting it up again. I had to reset to factory settings and tune in all the TV stations again. Still would not work. Contacted philips again who talked me through doing something else but it still won;t work. Then yesterday was the last straw. I recorded a programme and sat back to watch it and the machine froze again. Unplugged it and plugged it back in to discover the programme had been deleted from the hard disc. I contacted philips who told me to bring it back to the shop where I bought it. I did this and demanded a new recorder or a refund. I was refused both. I was told the machine was repairable and it would have to go back to philips and should be ready in a "couple of weeks". According to my consumer rights I am entitled to a refund as the recorder is not fit for the purpose it was bought - to record programmes. In the meantime I have no recorder and I am going on hols next week. Great. I would not recommend anybody buying this. its a load of rubbish and Im not the only one with the same complaint about this machine. Philips are worse than useless when it comes to customer support. They just don't want to know.

I have to agree that these devices are not up to scratch, so far anyway.

After returning one (at my expense; i.e. in the car to their warehouse in Blanchardstown) which was having apparently random audio loss followed by brief video skips, I tried another unit (I had picked up two, intending to give one to family or something) and found the exact same problem.
It completely spoils whatever you're watching when it happens once every 30 seconds or so (for about four seconds every time...). Also, they crash frequently, sometimes deleting the file you wanted to play in the process.

I'm sorry I bought the things now.
