Hey guys, anyone know when the new 45nm Intel chips are out for desktops. There seems to be very little info on them at tha moment. The last time I heard they were supposed to be out in January. Im talking about Yorkfield etc
    Thanks

Penryn still has a date of 8 jan 2008 , Yorkfield has a bug , and is delayed till late february early march. Both are 45 nm chips , Yorkfield is the desktop version.

Does that link not say pre-order ? I dont see any available now ! Theres still about two months to go as far as I know , buy hey , I just work there ! Its entirely possible that the date may be pulled in ,its all hands on deck for that , but they shouldnt be available till the new year in any case.

They are indeed on the lines now , the record from start to finish for wafers is 17 days , but thats only the wafers , then they have to go to the BA vendor to be cut and packaged , then they go for testing , assuming some good wafers come off the line today ( and no site has managed that yet ) , your still looking at a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks to build up enough inventory for shipping to retail.

Thanks guys, I already knew about the 9650 & 6850. Hey Mathias you could hardly get me a few chips at a discount? No harm in asking;)

We get one free one each ( and strictly speaking thats a loan , thats how its worded anyway ) and thats all ,and you must sit through a build your own PC class to get it, no discounts or anything. And Ive already used up mine.:D

My friend wants to upgrade soon, he uses his PC mostly for gaming. Crysis etc, which would be the better chip? Q6600 or E6850. We will overclock them of course! He has a CPU budget between €250-€300. Is there any chips on the horizon either?

    The delay ,

And a handy file , for ref. Note that this was made in June so doesnt take into account the delay for the bug,

if you want to really "feel" the upgrade why not wait till the end of 08, when the "Bloomfield" chip comes out, with an integrated memory controller and other significant advancements.
