computer poker

    hi,

Is anybody interested in computer poker? I don't mean for online bots to make money, I mean in an AI research kind of way. I'm trying to write a program to practice my programming (and improve my poker!).

If anyone is interested, here are some interesting links:

worlds best hu nlhe: (you can play it online)

    http://www.bluffbot.com/

    world computer poker championships:

Phil Laak vs U of Alberta

(see publications section for academic papers)

It's interesting that although two big american unis have groups researching this, "bluffbot" was just designed by one guy, using hand-coded strategies; while the uni's use more abstract algorithms to work out the "equilibrium" based on previous opponent play.

I think this is a really interesting way to improve your game, when you try to formalize your strategy into code you start to realise that you know a lot less than you thought you did.

if anyone has any other links or resources they would be much appreciated, thanks.

I started a project a month or so ago to make an offline poker game. Idea is you can use it in home games to replace the cards and chips and also a bluetooth version where peops can play on their phones on the move.

You can have a look at isopoker.com and download the latest, barely functional:) version.

I've used some of the alberta code for hand evaluation but have done the rest from scratch.
I don't plan to build an AI to it anytime soon but there's loads to do, so if you want to help let me know:)

I dunno, it pushed with a flushdraw against me in the 2nd hand. I called with the nut flush draw and took him out with A high:)

    Deepstacked?

No, the 100 BB game. Bit of an overbet though.

It IS really weak tight, but there's no reason that it should be weak tight just cos it's a bot, it's just as easy to program a maniac as it is a nit. The thing is it was designed to play against other bots, so maybe this was the best strategy against it's opponents heads up, only calling with the nuts. But i am surprised how bad it is.

I plan to write a bot called tiltbot...

whenever I have a bad beat I can just turn it on to tilt off my stack, save me the bother :D
