Laptop disconnecting when desktop connects to wireless network

I'm having a problem with my wireless network. Whenever my desktop connects (it's using a Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter), my laptop will periodically disconnect from the network for about 15 seconds or so before reconnecting again. This happens about once every 1-2 minutes. Once the desktop disconnects then everything runs fine again. My router is a Netopia 2247-02. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Not an expert on all this but could it be possible the ip address for the laptop and the desktop are set up the same and not on automatic, as far as I know this could cause your problem.

Both of them are definately on automatic and looking at the routers statistics they are both getting assigned different ip's so it's not that. I recently did a full format of both machines so it's hardly any settings I've accidently changed.
