Bike stolen

Just a word of warning to those who may have relaxed their bike security over the past while. My bike was nicked from the car park of my apartment block over the weekend. It had no battery and wouldn't start without a good push/run downhill, so it would have had to have been loaded into a van/truck. I had a disc-lock on it, but there was no other way of securing the bike to anything more secure.

    Anyway, in case anyone sees it - it's an orange/black Kawasaki D-Tracker 250, reg 00-D-109609. It's a very distinguishable bike as it looks like a KTM and is basically a converted scrambler - I haven't seen another bike like it on the road. Here's a pic;

It was purchased in Motomax in Churchtown. If anyone sees it anywhere please PM me! Thanks.

Sorry to hear that.. Will keep an eye out..
    Is that reg number right?

I should mention that an attempt was made on bikes in the city centre there last week.

It's where I work and all the bikes park in the loading bay as it provides sheltered parking. Of the 5 bikes there the CBR 600 and the Bros were both damaged as they had their ignitions removed in what I assume was a hot-wiring attempt.

I get the feeling the thieves are out shopping for christmas money. So it's definitely a time to be extra safe. I'm off to a lock shop later to see about a good lock an chain that I've been putting off for ages.

i had an attempt made made to nick my mojito custom from outside my house. neighbour said she seen 2 guys with "big scissors":p(i assume it was a bolt cutters). i reckon they were after the guy 2 doors down from me's bandit but it wasn't there as he works strange shifts so figured that they may as well have a go at mine. luckily my next door neighbour was seen by them and they legged it. nothing is safe these days.:(

The scumbags, nothing is safe these days. There have been a couple of bikes stolen from outside my office in Sandyford. 1 was in an underground carpark with an electronic security gate. My bike is locked to something solid whenever I leave it, no mater how long for. Its just not worth risking leaving it unlocked.

Hope you find your bike soon.

Well, would you believe it! I just had a call from Coolock Garda station where they have recovered my bike. It's had its ignition ripped out, chassis number ground down, and the number plate removed, but I've been told that apart from that it's otherwise fine.

And the best bit is that they have the guy that nicked it too. Double whammy!! :D To say I'm happy is an understatement as I never expected to see it again.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to get a new ignition fitted?

    Super congrats.....

hope they lock up that scumbag ..... but no doubt some goody-two-shoes will be waving their "he has rights" flag. Bring back Spike Island.

It's great that such minor damage was done to it, when will you pick it up - is it driving ??

Thanks, I'm chuffed. Spike Island would indeed be a worthy place for such as scumbag. I haven't seen it yet - will be taking a trip to Coolock tomorrow night to check it out. Hopefully the ignition is the worst of the damage and if so then happy days, I'll be out on the road as soon as that's fixed :D

About half way to the island would be my preference........that and the urgent need to lose some.......ballast ?;)

OP - congrats - get the number re-stamped and witnessed by the Garda for future reference......can you imagine trying to sell it without a frame number, down the road....:o

Great to hear you got the bike back - Look for a ground anchor.
You could fit it at your apartment and nobody would ever notice.

I have 100Euro woth of chain and lock on my bike all the time. AS well as a disk lock.
When I'm not around I also add a plastic coatted wire lock.

I'd advise you buy the heaviest MF you can find - mine is 2metre gold coaded hex chain with shackle lock :) The F****S will probably come with an angle gringer next!

    Great news, delighted for ya.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The bike is actually a lot worse off than I was lead to believe, and I was lucky it was in any way recognisable. They broke all the lights (front, rear, and indicators), mirrors, and almost all of the panels off the bike, leaving only one orange bit left - ironically enough this is how it was identified.

It's going to take a few quid to fix but the important thing is that it's still running and the other stuff is mainly cosmetic. I still have to collect it but Motomax said they'd take a look at it and let me know what would be involved, so fingers crossed that it can be repaired!!

I'd also look into an immobiliser/alarm system if your budget can stretch, a decent one will make trying to steal a bike almost impossible and should be a good deterrent. I think Steffano2002 got one installed by an independent installer.

You'll get a few quid off.

I sure did! First thing I did when I got the bike!

I got a DataTool Red alarm & immobiliser fitted by a great guy called Joe. He's a bit far from Dublin (can't remember the exact name of the town) but he's well worth a visit! PM me if you want his mobile number!

I also got an Acumen beeper (on eBay) that goes off when the alarm sounds (when I'm within range which is almost all the time as I'm never far from my beautiful Bandit!).

I also have a big 'fook off' chain and disc lock on top of everything and I always park the bike where it's safe and where I can see/hear it.

I've had the bike nearly 2 years now and no attempts were made to steal it. And I feel bad for the scum who ever tries to...
