    Hi there,

    i was just wondering..........

how often do countries/provinces get a new rugby jersey?

is it every 2 years? every year? will ireland have a new jersey for 6 nations 2009?

will leinster have a new one for next year's H cup?

    Thanks!

The provinces seem to change their jerseys every two years. The old Leinster jersey was introduced in autumn 2005 I think, so it served 2 seasons before the current one was brought in earlier this year.

I think Ireland had the same jersey for 3 years. The last one was first seen versus Italy in Rome during the 2004 Six Nations. This was only replaced before the RWC 2007 (notwithstanding change of sponsor last year). This Ireland jersey's gonna be around for a while, like it or hate it!

Clubs have cottoned on to the fact that its a huge money spinner and here in England it seems to be a new home and away strip every season...bit rich I reckon, especially when some of the new strips are, ahem shall we say less than flattering to the average (i.e. me) beer gutted follower.

The latest money making wheeze appears to be different types of jerseys...recently bought a London Irish home jersey, which now comes in a supporters version for about 50 quid sterling and the actual match day jersey which costs around 80. Bit of a swizz I reckon.....

I think the Irish jersey is actually getting worse and worse every edition.
The plain crest, with the white collar was the best. You could actually wear that as an item of clothing. The new one is ugly as sin.

Agreed. The new one should come with a gym membership, as you need to be ripped to the t1ts to make it look good on you

To be fair, they're not designed for casual wear and fashion. If you want a more traditional jersey, Canterbury sell a version with a grandad collar.

I have both the temex and the grandad versions, I would only wear the temex when training and never out at the pub.

Although, I will give you the old style Munster temex jersey was fine for wearing casually.

This has been the case for a while now. As you say, why would someone with a beer-gut want a match day jersey? Manufacturers are catering for all types. I must say I do like the new Rugbytech LI jerseys.

I never really see the point in buying a new jersey every year, unless it's just to support your team... I mean take Munster, for instance, I always have more admiration for people wearing the older ones (e.g. with Bank of Ireland sponsorship) as they are the real, long term fans...

    Thats not completely true.
A life long supporter could be wearing the new one just as easy
