So I smoked my last cigerette on Friday night (or so I thought).

Been smoking for about 5 or 6 years now, and I've been on 15 - 20 a day for around the last 2 years, and I've just had enough. The rotten smell, the outrageous cost, and the coughing and wheezing.

Went all Saturday and Sunday without a hitch, and woke up feeling fantastic, ready to start the week. Just came off a really sh*ty call (tech support) and in a moment of weekness went outside and had a smoke.

Now my mouth is dry, my fingers and clothes smell, my head is a little dizzy and I feel disgusted with myself.

    Grrrr.

Just start again. Don't let it get the better for you.
I gave up 2 months ago and also work in tech support.
When I had those moments (and believe me there were many of them) I just got up from my PC and walked to the coffee machine to get a coffee
For a while I drank LOTS of coffee but it gets you away from your desk just like before, but you are just forming a habit of doing something else I think

Don't beat yourself up Varkov, just start over.
I'll be 5 years off them next month and I couldn't even bear to touch one now. Giving up smoking is the best thing you could possibly do for yourself.

Next time you think you really, really want a cigarette remember how you felt after having that cigarette today and tell yourself it's not worth it after all and don't have the next one.

hey dude, i know exactly where you are and what you are suffering.

I worked for a large computer manufacturer based in limerick *nudge* when i first quit. i failed after 6 months, but i still survived those really ****ty calls.

The best piece of advise i can give you is not to break routines. your body craves that shock when you are under stress, that pang of cold air on your face/throat that quick stroll outside and the so called nicotine relief. When i quit i still went outside with the smokers, but i didnt smoke.

I also found i could replicate this "hit" at the back of my throat/chest with a cup of cold water, a quick stroll or even 3-4 deep breaths.

Next time you get some phone monkey at you, just take a deep breath, release it slowly and try to calm yourself down. Smoking does nothing for this stress it actually makes it worse. go for a walk in the fresh air, get a drink of cold water or just breath slowly and relax. everything in work can wait 5 minutes, it does when you go for a smoke and it will when you take a 5 minute breather.

If you are dedicated enough to the cause i found i was better off jumping into the deep end now and being around the smokers i socialised with, going out for my routine smoke break with a nice bottle of water or cup of hot coffee (whichever your vice is) and taking pride in the fact that i could stand there with the cows and not chew cud.

if you can survive 3 days of this, you are set for life.

oh and most importantly, if at first you dont succeed, try try again.
