NTL digital picture / sound loss

    Hi everyone,

I have ntl digital and have found that in the evening time (around 7pm and after) the picture and sound is perfect, there are no problems. However, when I watch a live soccer match, I get alot of picture/sound hops.

For example, today I was watching Man Utd vs Liverpool on sky sports 1. For the first half of the match, I got ALOT of picture/sound hops. The first half was so bad with the picture/sound hops, it was basically unwatchable. However, for the whole duration of the second half the picture/sound didnt jump once. Then after that I watched the Arsenal vs Chelsea match and for the whole of that match the picture/sound kept hopping. Come around 8pm, the picture/sound was constantly perfect.

I do know that I live in an area where there exists old copper cabling. (as opposed to newly built areas working on fiber-optics). So I have come to the conclusion/assumption that the problem is 3 things:

    1) The medium being used (ie. old copper cabling)
    2) The demand on the signal during peak times (ie a high demand soccer match)
    3) People constantly changing channels at peak times causing spikes in the signals

Would my assumptions be correct? If not, what else could be causing the hops.

If the signal sometimes becomes weak as a result of assumptions 2 & 3, would a signal booster help?

Thanks to everyone who read my post ( I know it was a LONG read..sry ...lol) and to everyone who also takes the time to reply.

    John

There was a thread very recently about this problem. IIRC no conclusion was reached on that either.
