I've partitioned my thinkpad R61 to run Vista for a while and see how I like it - it came preloaded with xp. I can't get the audio working under vista though - even after downloading the conexant vista drivers from the lenovo site - doing a bit of digging it seems a lot of people are having luck installing generic drivers but that's not done it for me either. The device manager seems to think it's in perfect working order but the damn thing won't give a peep, and I'm close to giving up on vista altogether... any last ditch ideas?

Have you tried these ones (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67821.html)
I'll assume you have because you mention that you have :P.
If they don't work you could try manually installed the sound drivers by picking them yourself and just selecting standard audio drivers but this is a long winded process and has no guaruntee of working.
You could also try using the Windows XP drivers from the IBM site as we have had success in fooling vista into using the XP drivers for certain hardware so it might be worth a try.
