I'm looking forward to the inevitable Sarah Smith nudie/glamour shots.

Sarah : "Do I really have to do this? I was bullied as a child or something" *sob* *boohoo*
Agent : *shakes fist* "Get em off!"

Thing was a joke, no offence to Leon but he shouldn't have been in the final

This year the judges made a terrible selection of people from the auditions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,861 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Rhydian's duet with Catherine Jenkins was just odd - their voices aren't even close to being compatable.

Still think he should have won it though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 301 ✭✭nicelives

I was surprised Leon was in the final as well, even after all the practice he was still a bag of out of tune nerves, shows what happens when the main audience is pubescent girls, nothing rational.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 413 ✭✭Romero

Felt Sorry for Rhydian, as he was just shocked that he was beaten, if he had sang the xmas single first I think he would have one, but because Leon went first and showed his VT with him crying and then crying on stage then he got the sympathy vote, If anyone watched the Xfactor aftershow on ITV2, it finally hit Rhydian and he was crying sitting on the settee with Danni, he was the only one to thank the voters of Ireland and I heard him on RTE Radio 1 during the week thanking the Irish public.
Top man who should have won this but beaten by a sob story!!!!

I never really liked Rhydian - he looks odd and has a funny attitude. I changed my mind about him last night though. I don't think he's as vocally perfect as everyone thinks, but he has his strengths. He seems quite genuine though and while I do quite like Leon, Rhydian should have won. I'm sure he'll do quite well by himself anyway.

leon is a clearly a nice genuine down to earth guy but he is not nearly as good as rydian
that said , i never really took to anyone on the show this year , none of the contestants this yr could hold a candle to leona lewis who although borring has an amasing voice which can take her anywhere, rydian while possessing a great voice is rather elitist and presumably will target the andrew lyodd webber crowd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

he looks more like a popstar , that why he won

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,462 ✭✭✭✭WoollyRedHat

Lol there's a show called Rock Rivals- A show similar to the X-Factor, except that it's fictionous

Apparently it's taking up the same slot the x factor did . They think it's all over- Not a chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 382 ✭✭seaner

I totally expected Rhydian to win. He's a weirdo for sure, but a likeable one at that. He has a great voice and the more VT we saw of him, the more people began to like him.
Leon winning, was TOTALLY unexpected. But I think the judges pitching countries against one another was a stupid idea. I just reckon the scottish folk are much more competitive / loyal and got behind their Leon.

Having said that Leon did have a few great performances throughout the series. But probably just as many shaky ones. He just needs a bit more coaching and to get some experience under his belt. I think he could probably be really good with the right people behind him.

Oh yeah - Kylie's performance with him did it.

It's a shame Rhydian didn't win, he was easily the best in the competition. I'm not surprised Leon was in the final but I am surprised he won. He was nervous but he's gotton more confident and the fact that he's Scottish, and cute, and charming helped. Rhydian was just...weird! It's why I like him though and he has a great voice.

I don't think the song chosen for the single suited either of their voices though. As someone just said, Rhydians voice isn't as perfect as everyone thinks and he even sang a couple of notes out of tune on the night! (Shock! Horror!).

Loved Leons jazzy voice and nervous charm. He got the best duet on the night (wonder how he got that..) but Rhydians 'Somewhere' sent shivers down my spine.

HOW THE FOOK DID SAME DIFFERENCE GET THAT FAR?!

If they weren't in Simon'd group he would be saying the exact same stuff as Louis; cheesy, pantomine, childrens pop.

I just realised I've written way too much on the X factor to justify myself...sorry! You just get drawn into the show!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,350 ✭✭✭WexCan

Have to agree - Rhydian was fantastic with Somewhere.

I really didn't like his style at first - I've been clasically trained but singing pop requires a completely different vocal approach. Get the party started was absolutely woeful for exactly this reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭beanyb

Rhydian definitely should have won, but I'd be fairly sure he'll have a better career than Leon. Leon is sweet and everything, but I cant see him having the success that Leona Lewis or Shayne Ward have had. I definitely think he got the 'aw isnt he cute vote' that Rhydian wouldnt have attracted! I think he needs a few more years before he could be successful. There's a lot of famous singers his age, but very few of them come across as childlike and innocent as Leon does. I think it would've been better for him in the long run not to win.

Killaqueen, I think Simon liked Same Difference for the exact reasons you mentioned that he shouldnt. He's not stupid, and he knows that there are many, many kids out there that will LOVE everything Same Difference do and will make him a fortune. I'd be shocked if he didnt get them some sort of contract. I dont think we've seen the last of them!

Way too much to write about X factor!

I was hoping rhydian would win,but how could they market him???that why he lost, leon is more marketable, but I don't think he was that good, altough I was impressed how he sang his fav song, that won it for him...

Rhydian reminds me of Edward Scissorhands.

His mannerisms, facial expressions (a lot of which were probably feigned) way he walks, whitened face. Uncanny.

I think he studied Edward Scissorhands because they told him to stop being such a gobby obnoxious fúcker or he had no chance.

That classical singer's voice was annoying, it was just warbling.
The last song that Leon sung (prior to the x-mas single) was a great a vocal.

His hair got to me - odd style pre-live shows (see publicity photos - flat on either side with a huge thing going up) and then the white hair (with dodgy eyebrows)

i'm glad Leon won, i stuck a fiver on him just before the show started and ended up forty quid richer :)

rhydian while a good singer was the exact same week in week out IMO

True....good thing about Leon is that he's grown more than anyone over the show.

I didn't like Rhydian but definitely think that he is a better singer than Leon. Leon's version of When You Believe was soo boring!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 413 ✭✭Romero

Well theres an Offcom investigation into callers not being able to get through to vote for Rhydian, one woman rang 10 times in a row and only got engaged tones, I have to say I had similar issues with voting for Rhydian here, phone line kept ringing engaged, on the 15th attempt I did get through, I thought that the reason it was engaged was there were so many people voting for Rhydian, but now looks like it was fixed to me!

Seemed just like the Will Young Vs Gareth Gates original final of Pop Idol:

Gates / Leon - young and boyish - girlies love him, gets s-s-s-s-s-sympathy vote, and more marketable. Let him win.
Young / Rhydian - Better vocal talent. No need to let him win as his vocal talent will make him huge.

    Just saying is all.

I don't like Leons song 'When you believe'. Nothing special about it at all/bit boring. Should have left it to Mariah/Whitney and not butchered it.

Rhydian is apparently being tracked by Andrew Lloyd Webber to appear as lead in Phantom of The Opera, wonder will Cowell let him go unsigned and wager on Leon and Same Difference, or indeed all three?

Rhydian was destined to end up in a Lloyd Webber show - and I for one would pay to see him perform. :)

In another few weeks we will all be asking Leon who? He ain't going much further than this single..............no matter how much he Believes :D

I think like Leona Lewis we won't see much of Leon until XFactor 2008 comes around. He needs fine tuning in a big way after he goes #1 for Crimbo. He also has to get edgier and loose the crooner Michael Bublé aspect, even though thats what he is at heart. Shayne Ward adpated from being an outsider who was a one trick monkey, to Justin Timberlake, to The Stylistics and to a pop superstar, well of sorts anyway.

He got mixed up but I think his point still has some merit.

Will Young was a jutjawed freak and probably "needed" the win more.

his performance of the phantom of the opera theme earlier in the series was excellent. I really like that show so was worried that he would screw it up but i thought he absolutely nailed it. They said that night on the show that Lloyd was a massive fan of his performances from rehearsels, but that could have been rubbish.

    Rhydian was robbed!!

Danni cried at his performance of Somewhere earlier in the series. My favourite performance of the series was this one:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZmeM3anvLk

Even if the 1st part is an intrinsically English song, i think he sang the whole thing from the heart.

I reckon the next time we see him live will be singing the anthem at the next Wales international rugby game - looking forward to it already

yeah he's a cert to be singing at the Millenium Stadium!

I know "I Vow to Thee My Country" is an english song but his version makes the hair stand up! Leon cant compete for talent, but he's more aimed at 14 year old girls hence the win i.e. the main demographic audience for The X-Factor & more likely to ring in and vote!!

That's true, I'm still fighting with my 14yr old daughter over this. While she admits Rhydian was the better singer, she loves Leon

I will NOT buy that CD in protest though
