I started an advertising company 4 months ago, that employed an unusual form of capturing the audiences attention. It targets college students, the 18-24 market. I test marketed the idea at two colleges to see the response, and it has so far been reasonably succesful. I'm hoping to approach bigger companies next year like Lynx, USIT, Student Travel Card etc, people with bigger budgets and more resources. My question is.. how do I go about getting into see these people? Do I just call, try generate an appointment? Send a proposal and samples? I did try to get into see these people initially when I started the company, but always got the brush off no matter how hard I tried to crunch them into an appointment. Doing it with smaller companies, on a local level allowed me to deal with directors, marketing managers that were more accessible. Anyone got any clever or innovative ways to guarantee getting into see these companies??

Having an internal contact is very useful when doing something like this. I would say send in any sort of proposal or package outlining your services, and if you get any kind of responce, at least you will get a name within the organisation, to whom you can contact again with a different approach at a later stage.

Not knowing the full details of your offering it is hard to comment but it might be worth your while getting in touch with these companies media agencies (plan the where, what and how of advertising for their clients). Check out the IAPI website for a full list of Irish media agencies and then check their client lists on their websites.

One of the functions of a media agency is to listen to proposals for their clients. If they like your idea they will pitch it on to the client. Thats not say you cant go direct to the clients either if you dont have success.
