Viewing angle causing shadows

My sister bought an lg 23" lcd today and set it up i her bedroom. The picture is fine when she looks straight at it but when she lies on the bed, shadows appear and it becomes fuzzy. Can anybody advise me why this is and if there is anything she can do about it? thanks
