    Howye folks,

I was just wondering how you apply the citation of a case to finding it,

I have the citation for a case I'm writing a case note on but have no idea how to apply it to find the details of the case itself.

    thanks

    cian

    As in something like this:
    DPP v Binead [2007] 1 IR 374?

The first part is the year of the reports that it was published in (2007), the second is the volume of that report (1st vol) the third is the series (IR= Irish reports) and the last is the page number. So if you were looking for the above case you would find the Irish reports, look for the most recent voume (2007 volume 1) and you would turn to page 374 and there it is.

If you have access to justis.com you can type in the details and it will come up for you.

Some other series of reports include:
ILRM - Irish Law Reports Monthly
WLR - Weekly Law Reports (UK)
All ER - All England Reports (England)
    NI - Northern Irish Reports
ILRT - Irish Law Times Reports
ELR - Employment Law Reports (UK)

Just to butt in for a sec, are the ILTR reports widely available? I've been looking for a case from 85 and couldnt find it anywhere tbh.

Most good legal libraries have them. They are usually at the back of the volume of the Irish Law Times i.e. when they bind the volumes they put all the issues of ILT first and then all the issues of ILTR.

If you're stuck, UCD, Trinity, Kings Inns, Blackhall etc will have them.

Or westlaw.ie which you should have access to by means of your university/college library site - pretty much all institutions have it now.
