Read a book, listen to some music or anything to keep your mind off things. What airline are you going with?

a plane is just a bus that flies! think of it like that
how many planes fly each day, thousands and thousands, what makes you think your so lucky to get the one that has a problem/crashes etc.

well your not flying IS the safest form of travel, sit back and enjoy

if your still worried head over to the avaition form, when i was worried i found a thread there about someone in the same situation

i take it your flyin to engerland, that means a max of 40/50 minutes in the air, up and down and your done

    enjoy your trip:)

Do you fly much? How have you dealt with it before? If needs must I guess you could take half a valium or what have you but you will be fine. As someone said, its like catching a flying bus. Any turbulence you may encounter can be equated to that bus travelling on a bumpy road. Perhaps you could tell them at check-in you are nervous and they will give lots of TLC? Honestly, don't worry. Just think what awaits you after the short journey, probably a great night out in London or whatever you have planned.:)

    My advice,

step 1 - put sample of you dna in sealed container and keep in a safe place.

step 2 - go to the bookies and bet that your flight will crash

If it crashes, you make a fortune, leave instructions with a family member to have the money put into cryogenically re-growing you when the technology becomes available.

If it doesn't, you live to fly another day. WIN WIN

OP, I know exactly what you mean. I'm a nervous flyer and take off and landing are when I get really nervous.

I ALWAYS buy a magazine or paper before getting on the plane and start reading as soon as I board. I never look out the window or take my head out of the magazine, no matter how much I want to.

If I get really panicky then I count to ten and breath deeply (while still reading the mag!).

It usually works but my last resort is just to close my eyes and lean back into the seat and concentrate on my breathing. Breathing deeply in and out while counting to 10 means your heart can't beat too quickly so you remain calmer.

Hope the flight was ok for you! :)

The flights were ok as ok goes, but because i have just started to see a "friend" in London the flying might become regular so the suggestions are very welcome. Thanks again.

Hi Sidney. I'm terrified of flying. I usually find the following help ful. I have listed them in order of what works best:

1: A glass or two of airport plonk in the bar before take off. Not too many. You want to be able to get on the plane and not go all Jonathan Rhys Myers.

2: A couple of Valium. I usually reserve these for longhaul flights though as thaey make me a little dopey.

DO NOT COMBINE 1 AND 2 TOGETHER!!

3: Bachs rescue remedy and deep breathing.

Mazeire, I see where you are coming from as a fellow terrified flyer myself but I don't drink to calm myself while flying. For me, I don't think it works, I'd have to drink two or three for any effect and then I'm groggy so can't read which would make me figety.

However, I do take prescribed medication on long haul flights or sometimes if I'm flying on my own and I'm tired or aggitated so my treshold is lower. I use xanex because you don't get the groggy feeling that valium gives you.

For short haul flights I have decided to brave it out and work through the fear in a hope that some day I will get abit more relaxed or if I am tired or stressed take a xanex.

Ah you see different strokes for diffrent folks. I'm so jumpy and wired getting on the plane that the couple of glasses of merlot numbs me enough to be able to concentrate on my book/ magazine whatever.
