Into tattoos = Into piercings?

I reckon I whinged about this to Emmet a good while back but I'd be curious to get a wider opinion on something.
Namely, the highly irritating (to me at least) assumption that since I'm into my tats I somehow view it as equally acceptable to stick whopping great bits of metal in myself.

Apart from getting the aul' ears done in my teens I've never had the slightest interest in piercings. Find the whole idea fairly off-putting if truth be told, and what I'm wondering is if this is as unusual as it seems.

And from the other side too- It makes perfect sense to me for people who are into what is essentially a temporary art form to balk at the thought of having themselves marked for life.

Why must they always go hand in hand?

I dunno, personally I really like both, not equally though, LOVE piercings, am very fond of tatts, but would be less inclined to get them as to piercings. Most people I know, love both, and then there's a few that only like one or the other, since I like both I don't really understand people not liking one or the other...I can understand people's dislike for tattoo's and how you're branded for life and stuff...

Yup, that's what I'm getting at..... Just strikes me they actually aren't that similar, people just tend to lump 'em together for convenience almost?

I'm the same as you OP. Have a few tatts but apart from a couple of sleepers in my teens I never was much interested in piercing. Don't mind people having loads of them or being interested in them but just not something I ever found myself wanting personally.

my interest lies more in piercings, as time goes by i get more and more into tattoos. only have one myself

i've met quite a few who would like one and not the other, and hell, even look at the 'parents' thread in here, and see how many don't mind piercings but do mind tattoos.

Although I've a few tattoos I wouldn't get piercings as I just know they'd keep catching on things and bugging me, tattoos only really require caution and upkeep during the first week or two after getting them done.
Guess I'm just a low maintanance person.;)

I did have a great interest in tattoos for a long time before I got one, still have aspirations to fill myself with 'em :D

I never had much of an interest in piercings 'til I got a ring in my rim a few months ago. Other than the obvious inbuilt innuendo value, I loved getting pierced. I since got the lobe of the same ear done twice, and am getting another 2 at the tope of the same rim in a few days, and fill myself up with those too.

I think that the two are completely unrelated, but the type of person who doesn't mind one type of mod is a bit more likely to enjoy others too.

I have no interest in tattoos what so ever. I do like my piercings though. Just got another one today (it's for christmas)

I'm kinda with the OP here too. Ear pierced a couple of times as a teen. Loved them at the time but they kinda had to go as I progressed in business. I still like seeing them on other people (except the PA ;) ) and if young again I probably would have few more than just the ear.

I have one tattoo that I got only recently but I am already planning to extend this and maybe get another.

As much as i'm into my tattoo's i would sooner get a piercing than a tat any day, they are quicker, more intense and give you(imo) a better satisfaction, plus since tattoo's are widely accepted in society they don't have the shock factor anymore, unlike piercings which still(depending on the placement) have the power to scare ppl:D

think it should be discussed more at our beers!

I appreciate both equally...but tattoos from a distance and piercings on self!

I like tattoos, but for some reason I just wouldn't get one myself. I think it's the permanency of them and that basically, at present, there is no image that means enough to me for me to want to have it permanently on my body. Maybe someday if something arises that I could think I'd like forever then I'd get one done, but for the moment piercings will do. :)

I think it's hilarious when you're talking to these big ass heavily tattooed guys and you mention piercings to them and they're terrified of the pain.
Anyhoo, I've got heaps of piercings and when I was a bit younger was probably more into them just for the reason of I was younger and not getting tattooed. Now I'd be more into tattoos and appreciate the art of them a lot more.

I know when I got my nipple pierced all those years ago I passed out for a short bit, however I think that was a combination of things not just the pain. After three tattoo's I think the pain isn't much different. The reason I got it done at the time was that my g/f thought it was going to be cool, since then I've got three tattoo's done each signalling an important event, or part of my life that I want to remember, I don't see how getting a bit of metal in my eyebrow does that .. but then again each to their own.

i love tats on other people and have been known to stop up a guy in street to admire fantastic indian chief on his bicep but cringe at thoughts of subjecting myself to one! on the other hand ive just got my third piercing, in my nipple and i LOOOVE it!! have to admit though it hurt like hell at the time! And u dont go round catching them on things!!
i was seriously weighing up getting my lady bits pierced but after pain of nipple pierce i really dont know, also theres the debate on whether or not u lose sensation in said area and i am soooo not willing to take risk!! does anyone have an opinion on that?

if its done correctly youve no chance of losing any feeling mainly because its just the hood that is pierced not the actual clitoris

thanks for that, can u reccommend a good salon??:D
am also thinking of the major embarrasment factor!! as only my gynae gets to see me that up close and personal!!:D

but i'll buy u a pint if it goes well!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,183 ✭✭✭✭Will

ive trust in marks ability, havent been pierced by the others.
as long as you look after it there shouldnt be a problem.
no need to buy me a pint at all.
of course you mightnt be suited to a vch (if thats what youre going for) anatomically.

I got my 'ladybits' pierced in Snakebite in Dublin and I wouldn't trust anyone else :) he spent the best part of half an hour explaining everything I needed to know (he even had a little plastic vulva thing to show me!) and he was very professional and I didn't mind taking my pants off in front of him even though I'm really shy about it!

They do special jewellery for piercings down there as well to ensure it'll fit right, I can't recommend them enough.

Steve in Snakebite did my PA too, and like Gauge, I couldn't recommend him highly enough! :D

Back on topic, I have wanted tattoos since I was 16 or so, and finally got my first at 26 :D Was always intrigued by piercings, but could never see myself going through with it! But then slowly did ore and more research, and the more I read the more I wanted a PA done... Finally got it done in September, followed shortly after by my 2nd tattoo :D
